Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations, including mental status examinations and diagnostic assessments using EMR systems such as Epic and eClinicalWorks
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans incorporating psychopharmacology, therapy, and other modalities like botulinum toxin treatment when appropriate
- Prescribe medications safely while adhering to HIPAA regulations and state-specific prescribing laws
- Collaborate with physicians, therapists, case managers, and other healthcare providers to coordinate comprehensive patient care
- Manage urgent psychiatric crises through triage protocols, ensuring prompt intervention for acute mental health episodes
- Educate patients and families on mental health conditions, medication management, and wellness strategies
- Document all clinical encounters accurately in medical records, maintaining compliance with ICD-10 coding standards and CPT coding practices
Qualifications
- Valid certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) with current licensure in the relevant state
- Demonstrated experience in behavioral health settings, including hospital medicine or outpatient clinics
- Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth
- Experience working with diverse populations across age groups—children, geriatrics, or specialized populations like assisted living or hospice & palliative medicine preferred
- Knowledge of psychopharmacology principles and medication administration protocols
- Familiarity with crisis intervention techniques and acute care procedures such as airway management and IV infusion
- Strong understanding of mental health assessment tools, diagnostic evaluation methods (ICD-9/ICD-10), and treatment planning standards
