Job Overview
The Community Resource Room Coordinator will manage daily operations of Literacy West NY, Inc.’s (LWNY) Community Resource Room, serving as a central hub for digital literacy training, workforce development support, and community access to essential online services. This position plays a key role ensuring that underserved residents—particularly those in rural and digitally excluded communities—can access technology, receive personalized digital navigation support, and connect to education, employment, and health resources.
The Coordinator will maintain a welcoming, well-equipped learning environment; deliver one-on-one and small-group support; oversee technology resources; and partner with community organizations to expand outreach and service delivery.
Duties
- Program & Participant Services
- Serve as the primary on-site facilitator for the Community Resource Room, greeting participants and assisting them with technology use, job search tools, and online service navigation.
Technology & Resource Management
- Maintain all computers, peripherals, software, and internet connectivity in the Resource Room, ensuring equipment is operational and up-to-date.
- Organize and maintain program resource materials, handouts, and digital literacy curriculum.
- Coordinate scheduling for Resource Room use, including workshops, open-access sessions, and partner-led programming.
- Troubleshoot basic technical issues and arrange for repairs or IT support as needed.
Partnerships & Outreach
- Collaborate with libraries, workforce development agencies, schools, and community organizations to promote Resource Room services and recruit participants.
- Assist in hosting mobile lab events in coordination with the Rural Spark-Ed team, bringing technology and training to community partner sites.
- Distribute outreach materials in print and digital formats; represent LWNY at community events.
Data Collection & Reporting
- Maintain accurate participant records, service logs, and outcome data in compliance with grant requirements.
- Conduct participant satisfaction surveys and gather feedback to inform program improvements.
- Provide timely reports on usage, outcomes, and community engagement to the Project Director.
- Deliver individualized and small-group digital literacy instruction, using curricula such as Northstar Digital Literacy, tailored to participant needs.
- Provide assistance with practical tasks, including creating email accounts, completing online applications, navigating telehealth portals, and accessing government services.
- Administer digital readiness assessments and track participant progress using LWNY-approved data systems.
- Assist participants in identifying next steps for education, training, or employment and make appropriate referrals to internal LWNY programs or external partners.
Experience
- Previous office management or administrative experience in a community or healthcare setting preferred
- Strong computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), Google Workspace (Gmail, Calendar), and data entry skills
- Experience using multi-line phone systems and providing excellent phone etiquette in busy environments
- Bilingual abilities are highly desirable to serve diverse community members effectively
- Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to multitask efficiently while maintaining attention to detail
- Clerical experience including filing, proofreading, bookkeeping, and record keeping is advantageous
- Customer service background with a focus on supporting diverse populations in person or over the phone
Qualifications
Required:
- Associate degree in Education, Human Services, Information Technology, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and common online platforms.
- Experience providing instruction, tutoring, or training to adults in a community or educational setting.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals of diverse backgrounds, cultures, and skill levels.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Preferred:
- Experience with digital literacy instruction or workforce development programming.
- Familiarity with Northstar Digital Literacy curriculum or similar tools.
- Experience working in rural communities or with underserved populations.
- Knowledge of community resources and referral systems.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Based in an LWNY Community Access Site with frequent interaction with the public.
- Occasional travel to partner sites, community events, and mobile lab locations (mileage reimbursement provided).
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds and set up portable technology equipment.
