What are the responsibilities and job description for the ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) Tutor position at Literacy Volunteers of the Montachusett Area?
Our services provide individual tutoring in the North Central MA region (26 cities and Towns). Tutors and students meet at a time and place that is convenient for each match. Libraries are usually the ideal meeting place due to the availability of quiet areas and unlimited resources.
Tutors are professionally trained before being matched with a student. The trainings are held about three times a year.
,
LVMont volunteers help adults acquire the literacy and English language skills that empower them to realize their goals. By improving their basic skills through tutoring, adults are better able to meet life's challenges, be self-sufficient, provide for their families, help their children with homework, read a daily newspaper, enjoy more independence and gain self-confidence.
Our volunteers attend a 2-hour orientation and an 18-hour training before being matched with a student. We ask volunteers to commit to tutoring this student for 2 hours per week for 9 to 12 months. During this time you come to understand the student's strengths and the particular challenges they face, so that you can shape the lessons to match their needs and goals. LVMont's professional staff provides ongoing support and sponsors activities to help both the student and tutor succeed and achieve the student’s goals.
