What are the responsibilities and job description for the Adult Literacy and ESOL Tutors position at Literacy Volunteers of the Montachusett Area?
Our services provide individual tutoring in the North Central MA region (26 cities and Towns). Tutors and students meet at a time and place that is convenient for each match. Libraries are usually the ideal meeting place due to the availability of quiet areas and unlimited resources.
Tutors are professionally trained before being matched with a student. The trainings are held about three times a year.
,
In our community, many adults struggle with low literacy or limited English skills, making it difficult for them to fully participate in daily life, secure stable employment, or support their families. With 1 in 5 adults facing these challenges, our community’s potential is held back by limited educational access, diminished civic engagement, and economic disadvantages.
You can be the solution by becoming a Literacy Volunteer. By dedicating just a few hours a week, you can help an adult learner improve their literacy or English skills, opening doors to opportunities that can change lives. With one-on-one tutoring, volunteers provide tailored support that empowers individuals to gain confidence, achieve personal goals, and become active participants in their communities.
Step-by-Step Action Plan
By volunteering, you are helping to break this cycle. Your time and dedication will help someone gain the skills they need to thrive, leading to better job opportunities, improved family stability, and greater community involvement. You are creating lasting change in the life of one person, their family, and the wider community.
