Part-time Adult ESOL Teacher
For over 50 years, Literacy Volunteers of Greater Worcester (LVGW) has provided free English language education to adults throughout Central Massachusetts. LVGW provides a supportive environment where students can develop their understanding of both the English language and American culture.
We offer three levels of classes (Survival- for students who know little to no English, Beginner- for students with good oral and some written English, and Intermediate- For students with good oral and written English) over three 10-week semesters per year. Classes are scheduled for 2 hours which includes 1.5 hours of class time and 30 minutes prep and/or follow-up time. Most classes meet twice a week and are offered virtual and in person.
This part-time adult ESOL teacher is a professional teaching position. You will teach ESOL day and/or evening classes, remotely or in-person depending on program needs. The ideal candidate would be comfortable teaching at all levels for future program needs or for substitution purposes. You will be responsible for developing lesson plans using differentiated techniques and strategies to address all aspects of communication in alignment with the Massachusetts English Language Proficiency Standards (MA ELPS). All of our courses use Pearson’s Future adult ESOL textbook series. You will use classroom technology to enhance the learning environment and administer informal language assessments for the purpose of evaluating student progress.

QUALIFICATIONS
Master's in TESOL, English, Education, or Applied Linguistics or a Master's degree in a related field with specific coursework or training in TESOL/TESL/TEFL methodology and theory. We will also consider applicants with both a BA and TESOL/TESL/TEFL certificate. Previous teaching experience, preferably in an ESL or EFL context. Bilingual applicants are highly encouraged to apply.
