Role Description
This is a Volunteer Tutor role based in Dupage County After completing your tutor training you will be matched with an adult learner that has the same time and location availability as you. . As a Volunteer Tutor, you will meet face-to-face with adult learners for two hours each week to provide one-on-one tutoring tailored to their unique English language needs. Your responsibilities will include helping learners enhance their communication skills for practical tasks, such as engaging in conversations, attending medical appointments, or job-related interactions. Additionally, you will participate in an initial training program and maintain regular communication with program coordinators to track and support your learner’s progress.
Qualifications
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to build trust and encourage learner success.
- Ability to patiently support learners with English reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension skills.
- Organizational skills to manage consistent weekly tutoring sessions and track learner progress.
- Flexibility, adaptability, and cultural sensitivity to meet the diverse needs of learners.
- Commitment to a minimum of two hours per week for tutoring and completion of 15 hours of initial training (including self-paced online modules).
- A high school diploma or equivalent educational background is preferred.
- Prior teaching or mentoring experience is not required, but a passion for helping others and a willingness to learn is essential.
