The Facilities Associate reports to the Director of Facilities.

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To

Facilities and Building Operations

  • Assist with general repairs, routine maintenance, painting, and upkeep throughout the building.
  • Assist with disposal and removal of items and help manage storage areas and keep common areas clear and organized.
  • Conduct regular inspections of premises, machinery, equipment, and tools; perform minor repairs as appropriate and report maintenance issues to the Director of Facilities.
  • Assist with seasonal installation and removal of air-conditioning units, changing HVAC filters, and other routine HVAC maintenance as needed.
  • Provide support to HVAC and other building-system subcontractors and coordinate building access as directed.
  • Assist with routine boiler maintenance during the heating season, including draining valves and steam traps as directed.
  • Support the implementation of established safety procedures, maintain safety equipment, conduct monthly inspections of fire extinguishers, and inspect first aid kits and maintain appropriate supplies.
  • Provide daily break coverage for Front Desk staff.
  • Support building security by following established opening, closing, and access procedures and working with staff and students to maintain a secure building.
  • Work with custodial staff to support cleanliness and general upkeep of the School.
  • Provide general operational support across the building as needed.

Studio and Workshop Support

  • Assist with classroom setups, including moving materials, easels, stands, room dividers, flats, and other equipment.
  • Support dust control procedures and maintenance of safe studio environments.
  • Assist with clay recycling and kiln loading and unloading.
  • Organize and store studio materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Maintain clean and organized stock of linens and organize props when regular classes are not in session.
  • Maintain sinks and clean sink traps in studios.
  • Move and organize artwork, materials, and other items as needed.

Events, Gallery, and Rentals

  • Assist with setup and breakdown for receptions, events, and other School activities.
  • Provide support for gallery installation, de-installation, and ongoing maintenance.
  • Provide support for School rentals, including setup, breakdown, and building access as needed.

Other Duties

  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Facilities, Director of Administration, or Executive Director.

Qualifications & Skills

The ideal candidate is a reliable, hands-on, and organized person who is comfortable working in a busy studio and school environment. They should have good practical judgment, be able to work independently and collaboratively, and be comfortable performing routine maintenance, moving materials and equipment, and supporting the day-to-day needs of the School.

  • Experience in facilities, maintenance, studio, workshop, construction, custodial, or other hands-on work preferred.
  • Comfortable using basic hand tools and power tools, and performing routine maintenance and minor repairs.
  • Strong attention to safety, organization, and cleanliness, with the ability to follow established procedures.
  • Ability to safely lift, move and carry up to 50 pounds and perform frequent bending, lifting, walking, and climbing and descending of stairs. Must be able to safely use ladders.
  • Reliable, flexible, and able to manage multiple tasks and shifting priorities in a busy environment.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with the Facilities team, staff, faculty, students, contractors, and visitors.
