Resident Doctor – Obs & Gynae (FTC)

  • Location: London, The Portland's Hospital Part of HCA Healthcare UK
  • Hours: 1x 12hr shift per week
  • The 4-week rota will include a fair and flexible mix of day and night shifts, including weekdays and weekends.
  • Contract Type: Fixed Term Contract Until October 2026.

Located in central London, the hospital is internationally recognised for its expertise in obstetrics, gynaecology, paediatrics, neonatal care, and complex maternity services.

The hospital provides a full range of maternity and women’s health services, including antenatal care, labour and delivery, fetal medicine, minimally invasive gynaecological surgery, fertility support, and postnatal care. It is supported by advanced diagnostic facilities, specialist theatres, neonatal intensive care services, and a multidisciplinary clinical team committed to delivering high standards of patient-centred care.

What You Will Do

  • Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive clinical documentation in accordance with General Medical Council and hospital governance standards.
  • Participate in daily ward rounds, MDT meetings, handovers, and case reviews to support continuity of patient care.
  • Support the management of high-risk obstetric patients, including hypertensive disorders, gestational diabetes, multiple pregnancies, and obstetric emergencies.
  • Provide compassionate counselling and clear communication to patients and families regarding diagnosis, treatment plans, procedures, and post-operative care.
  • Supervise and support junior doctors, medical students, and clinical staff where appropriate.
  • Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, and risk management activities to enhance patient safety and service delivery.
  • Respond promptly to emergency situations including postpartum haemorrhage, eclampsia, sepsis, shoulder dystocia, and neonatal emergencies.
  • Assist in coordinating patient discharge planning, follow-up care, and referrals to relevant specialties and community services

What You Will Bring

  • GMC Registration with License to Practice in the UK.
  • MBBS qualification with significant post-qualification experience and training in obstetrics and gynaecology.
  • A passion for teamwork and patient-centered care, with the ability to share best practices and provide a first-class patient experience.
  • Competency in managing a wide range of obstetric and gynaecological conditions, including performing difficult deliveries, instrumental deliveries, emergency LSCS, and surgery for obstetric and gynaecological emergencies (e.g., PPH).
  • Competency in managing obstetric and gynaecological patients, including prescribing medications and facilitating discussions with patients and their families.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification or an equivalent recognized qualification and proficiency in resuscitation, airway management, defibrillation, and initiating treatment in high-dependency or critical care settings.
