Position Summary
Lisbon Community School District is seeking a passionate and student-centered Secondary Art Teacher to serve grades 7–12. The ideal candidate will inspire creativity, foster artistic expression, and support students in developing technical skills and an appreciation for the visual arts. Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, standards-based instruction in a variety of visual arts areas
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of all learners
- Utilize formative and summative assessments to monitor student growth and adjust instruction accordingly
- Maintain a safe, organized, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes creativity and respect
- Collaborate within Professional Learning Communities to analyze student data, develop common assessments, and improve instructional practices
- Incorporate technology and digital tools to enhance student learning and artistic exploration
- Display student artwork throughout the school and community to celebrate student achievement
- Communicate effectively with students, families, and staff regarding student progress and classroom expectations
- Participate in school events, professional development, and district initiatives
- Support extracurricular opportunities related to the arts, as appropriate
Qualifications
- Valid Iowa Teaching License with appropriate endorsement in Art (K–12 or 5–12 preferred)
- Strong knowledge of art techniques, art history, and contemporary practices
- Experience working with secondary students preferred
- Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and families
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills
- Commitment to continuous professional growth and collaboration
Located 20 minutes from Cedar Rapids and 25 minutes from Iowa City. Historic Lisbon offers access to a thriving corridor while providing all the benefits of a close-knit community. Approximately 350 elementary school students are provided rigorous and relevant curriculum from a strong elementary staff. Lisbon students utilize our 1-to-1 computing initiative to help students achieve personal and district curriculum goals.
