Job Title: Athletic Director
Reports to: School Principal / Superintendent
FLSA Status: Exempt
Position Type: Full-Time, 12-month
Position Summary:
The Athletic Director is responsible for leading, developing, and overseeing the K–12 athletic programs at our school. This individual ensures the programs align with the school’s mission, values, and academic goals, while promoting sportsmanship, student engagement, and physical development. The Athletic Director provides visionary leadership, strong organizational skills, and a passion for student success.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Leadership & Oversight
- Develop and manage a comprehensive athletic program for students in grades K–12.
- Promote participation in athletics as part of a well-rounded educational experience.
- Coordinate athletic schedules, practices, games, and tournaments across all grade levels.
- Ensure compliance with all state, regional, and conference rules and regulations.
Staff Management
- Recruit, evaluate, and support coaches and athletic staff in collaboration with, and under the supervision of, the principal; ensuring that all hiring, evaluations, and personnel decisions are reviewed and approved by school administration rather than made independently.
- Provide leadership training and professional development opportunities for coaches.
- Ensure all coaches and volunteers meet eligibility and training requirements.
Facilities & Equipment
- Oversee the use, maintenance, and scheduling of athletic facilities.
- Manage inventory and purchase of athletic equipment and uniforms.
- Ensure facilities and equipment are safe, accessible, and well-maintained.
Student Support & Safety
- Promote the physical well-being, character development, and academic progress of student-athletes.
- Monitor student eligibility and academic performance in coordination with school leadership.
- Uphold safety protocols and emergency procedures for athletic events and activities.
Budget & Communication
- Develop and manage the athletic department budget.
- Coordinate fundraising activities and partnerships to support athletics.
- Communicate effectively with students, families, staff, and community stakeholders.
Qualifications:
Required:
- Commercial Drivers Licence (CDL)
- Bachelor’s degree in education, sports management, or related field
- Minimum of 3 years of coaching or athletic administration experience
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in Athletic Administration, Education Leadership, or related field
- Valid Arkansas teaching or administrative license
- Experience in a K–12 school setting
Work Environment:
- A combination of office, gymnasium, and outdoor athletic facility environments
- Evening and weekend work is required for events and competitions
- Travel between campuses or to competitions as needed
