What are the responsibilities and job description for the LISA North Middle/High Physical Education (PE) Teacher position at Lisa Academy Charter Schools?
Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the Physical Education (PE) Teacher is responsible for developing students’ physical skills, promoting physical fitness, wellness, teamwork, and sportsmanship, and encouraging lifelong healthy habits. The teacher plans, implements, and evaluates physical education programs that meet the developmental needs of students, including fostering motor skills, coordination, and an understanding of health and wellness.
Essential Functions
Develops and administers a Physical Education curriculum consistent with school district goals and state standards.
Promotes a classroom and gym environment that is safe, inclusive, and conducive to active learning.
Designs lesson plans and instructional activities that teach motor skills, physical fitness, and game strategies.
Teaches sports, movement skills, fitness techniques, and wellness education to students at all grade levels.
Encourages teamwork, cooperation, leadership, and sportsmanship in all activities.
Uses assessment tools to monitor student progress in physical skills, fitness, and participation, adapting instruction as needed, including for students with special needs.
Organizes and supervises indoor and outdoor activities, games, and fitness programs.
Maintains equipment and facilities to ensure safety and proper use.
Communicates effectively with students, parents, and staff about student progress, behavior, and participation.
Collaborates with other teachers and participates in school committees, faculty meetings, and professional development.
Coordinates with coaching staff for extracurricular athletic programs when applicable.
Encourages student participation in school-wide wellness initiatives and competitions.
Additional Duties
Performs other tasks as assigned by the Principal or central office administrators.
Assists in organizing school sports events, tournaments, and wellness activities.
Supports school-wide programs for physical activity and healthy living.
Equipment
Uses standard office equipment: computer, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.
Utilizes physical education equipment: balls, nets, mats, fitness gear, and athletic supplies.
Travel Requirements
Travels to school district buildings, athletic events, and professional meetings as required.
Work Schedule
Follows the standard teacher schedule as set forth in the Teachers’ Unit Contract.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of physical education principles, fitness concepts, and health education.
Knowledge of child development and age-appropriate activities.
Ability to plan, implement, and assess engaging and safe physical education lessons.
Strong classroom and behavior management skills.
Ability to motivate students and encourage active participation.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills with students, parents, and staff.
Knowledge of data systems and record-keeping for attendance, participation, and progress.
Ability to collaborate with colleagues and engage in professional growth.
Physical and Mental Demands
Works in gymnasiums, classrooms, and outdoor fields.
Requires standing, running, lifting, demonstrating exercises, and active supervision.
Certification / License
Valid State Teaching Certification (Preferred) in Physical Education.
CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
Valid driver’s license (Preferred)or the ability to provide transportation.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Kinesiology, or related field required.
Master’s degree preferred.
Experience
Previous teaching or coaching experience preferred.
