Faculty - Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, Raymond B. Jones, College of Engineering

Lipscomb University
Nashville, TN Full Time
POSTED ON 9/30/2025
AVAILABLE BEFORE 10/29/2025

Lipscomb University seeks to attract and retain highly qualified faculty who share the University’s values and will contribute to its mission and vision to be a leader among teaching universities. We aim to bring together the best of liberal arts and professional engineering education in a Christian community of learning and service.

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Lipscomb University seeks qualified candidates for a tenure-track position with the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor beginning August 2025. Successful candidates should have a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering or a closely related field, along with a minimum of three years of ECE work experience (either in industry or research) and a demonstrated ability to teach at the undergraduate level. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, a commitment to mentoring students, and a passion for fostering a collaborative academic environment. Experience teaching courses in microprocessors and embedded systems is preferred. Our priority is to find an individual dedicated to inspiring and guiding students while helping them grow and develop into ethical, mature, and accomplished engineers. Because our students often engage in engineering mission efforts in which their technical skills are applied both domestically and in majority world locations, experience in multicultural STEM outreach is desired.

Lipscomb University is a private, Christian university associated with the fellowship of the Church of Christ and governed by religious tenets held by the Church of Christ- intentionally, courageously and graciously. From its founding in 1891, Lipscomb has consistently pursued a mission that combines challenging academic preparation with the dynamic spiritual development of its students. It is important that those who wish to join the Lipscomb community embrace its mission and, through their work and lives, reflect a commitment to it. While preference will be given to qualified applicants who are members of the Church of Christ, it is not a strict requirement for the position.

Primary Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities include teaching a subset of undergraduate engineering courses involving topics such as digital logic, circuits, signals and systems, semiconductors and semiconductor electronics, power, microprocessors and embedded systems, digital signal processing, digital processor design, and/or instrumentation and controls. Faculty members are expected to teach a 24-credit hour annual load. Limited release time from the 24-hour load is possible with funded research and or administrative assignments. Faculty are also expected to mentor and advise students, participate in professional development activities such as research and consulting, and contribute to curriculum development and assessment. Opportunities exist to develop and teach courses in the candidate’s area(s) of interest and expertise. Faculty are also expected to engage in service activities within the department, university, and broader academic community.

Expectations
Candidates are expected to have knowledge of principles, methods, and current developments in the academic discipline and in professional practice, as well as knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques appropriate to teaching the courses assigned. They should be able to create a syllabus and effectively deliver the learning objectives of the course. The ideal candidate will also identify blind spots in student learning and take the initiative to develop curriculum and programming to support and empower student learning. Additionally, candidates should be able to advise, instruct, manage, motivate, and evaluate students, and effectively communicate both verbally and in writing. Integrating technology into the teaching and learning process and successfully interacting with students, other educators, educational institution representatives, and the general public in a professional manner are also required.

Successful candidates should have a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering or a closely related field, along with a minimum of three years of ECE work experience (either in industry or research) and a demonstrated ability to teach at the undergraduate level.
