Building Manager Job Purpose:
Overseeing the safety and maintenance of school buildings while ensuring that the property is in compliance with all applicable regulations. Facilitating, recommending, and coordinating all improvements to the property as needed to ensure a safe, functional, and appealing space:
Core Responsibilities & Essential Duties:
- Maintaining a safe environment with proper lighting, signage, and disability access.
- Carrying out emergency plans, evacuation bags, procedures, and signage.
- Communicating with the Director of Operations and the security company regarding security staffing, logs, and scheduling.
- Maintaining the fire prevention system, including sprinkler system, fire panel, and fire extinguishers.
- Ensuring the safety of the building's occupants.
- Working with the operations team, including porters, security, and the night cleaning crew, to maintain the building’s safety and appearance.
- Receiving and responding to Zendesk tickets.
- Taking care of any building maintenance and repairs with porters and cleaning night crew i.e., cleaning, painting, construction, plumbing, snow removal, floor care, landscaping, garbage removal, fixing or replacing broken locks, and anything else deemed necessary to maintain the building.
- Contacting and scheduling outside vendors.
- Overseeing contractors and inspecting completed jobs.
- Willing and able to respond to any overnight building emergencies.
- Maintaining records of evacuation drills, lockdowns, and vendor visits.
- Logging and delivering any incoming packages.
- Inspecting the building daily by conducting walkthroughs to ensure proper working order of all mechanicals, maintenance of all spaces, and safety of all FF&E.
- Liaising with the HS Leadership Team to set up spaces for all events, including lunch, school meetings, and sporting events.
- Monitor the safe storage and control of any potentially harmful materials and chemicals used within the school, and ensure that such materials are appropriately marked.
- All other job duties will be assigned by the Director of Operations.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- Associate’s Degree
- On-the-Job Experience
- Maintenance and or Construction Experience
- Understanding of Building Codes and Safety Regulations, including the ability to attain the following NY CITY FDNY licenses:
- S12 (City Wide Sprinkler Systems)
- S95 (Supervision Of Fire Alarm Systems)
- F07 (Fire and Emergency Drill Conductor
- Customer Service Experience
- Critical Thinking & Problem Solving
- Ability to lift 25 lbs
- Strong Written and Oral Communication Skills
- Detail Oriented
- Strong Leadership Skills
- Results-Oriented Behavior
- An ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with colleagues, families, and students
Preferred Experience:
- Building Trade Certification
- Fluency in Spanish is a Plus
All compensation is aligned with our LION pay scale. Salary is commensurate with experience, education, and certification (Teacher positions only). While the posted range reflects the anticipated compensation, the exact compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors, including qualifications and internal equity.
