STUDENT SUPPORT SPECIALIST- Long Term Care & Treatment

Classification: Classified 190-day calendar (with potential for extended contract into summer)

Reports to: Long Term Care & Treatment Principal

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

 

POSITION OVERVIEW


This position blends instructional support, relational engagement, and substitute teaching capacity within a therapeutic educational environment. Long Term Care & Treatment (LTCT) provides comprehensive PreK–Grade 12 education within day treatment and residential settings, partnering with behavioral health providers and school districts to ensure continuity of instruction and student- centered transitions.

 

The Student Support Specialist plays a critical role in supporting students as they engage in education during residential or treatment placement and as they prepare to transition back to their home districts. This position requires flexibility, strong organizational systems, and the ability to step into instructional, relational, and supervisory duties seamlessly.

 

The role is designed to flex based on candidate strengths and program needs, with substitute teaching capability prioritized when licensure is held or obtained.

 

LTCT operates through five core pillars:

QUALIFICATIONS
 

Required:

1.       High school diploma or equivalent.

2.       Two years of successful experience in education, behavioral health, or a related field.

3.       Demonstrated ability to utilize word processing, student information systems, and database/spreadsheet software with accuracy.

4.       Strong oral and written communication skills.

5.       Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

6.       Such alternatives to certain above qualifications may apply as deemed appropriate by the Superintendent and/or Board of Directors.

 

Preferred:
1.       Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, social work, or related field.

2.       Eligibility for or ability to obtain the possession of an Oregon Substitute Teaching License (TSPC).

3.       Experience supporting students with mental and behavioral health needs.

4.       Knowledge of IEP/504 processes and student records management.

5.       Bilingual oral and written communication skills.

 

GENERAL INFORMATION
 

This position has the following expectations and prerequisite abilities.

5.       Demonstrates respectful, flexible and effective teambuilding skills of cooperation, communication and active participation.

6.       Present self and LBL in a professional manner including: in oral and written communication, professional disposition when working with others and maintaining professional dress standards.

7.       Ability to understand and follow oral and written directives, find requested data and present in user-friendly formats for internal and public distribution.

8.       Maintain regular attendance at work. Be punctual in meeting deadlines, attending meetings, and following schedules.

9.       Utilize digital learning and communications platforms to provide services to educators, students and district staff as directed.

10.    Ability to lift, carry at least 25 pounds.

11.    Ability to sit for extended periods of time in a vehicle or work setting.

12.    Demonstrate relational foundations aligned to the LTCT pillar practices above.

13.    Ability to collaborate with educators, behavioral health providers, and multidisciplinary teams.

14.    Ability to work flexibly across classrooms, cottages, and program environments.

15.    Ability to safely maneuver within dynamic and unpredictable environments.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Instructional & Student Support
1.       Provide direct academic support to students in small-group and individualized settings.

2.       Support students during instructional and non-instructional activities.

3.       Assist in implementation of IEPs, 504 plans, and individualized student supports.

4.       Reinforce universal instructional practices aligned to LTCT pillars.

5.       Model relational and trauma-informed responses with students.

6.       Support student engagement, regulation, and readiness to learn.

Classroom & Program Support
7.       Provide instructional assistance in classrooms and alternative learning spaces.

8.       Prepare instructional materials and support lesson implementation.

9.       Assist students in digital learning platforms (Khan Academy, MobyMax, Edmentum, Google Workspace).

10.    Support supervision and transitions across campus environments.

Substitute Teaching (When Licensed/Assigned)
11.    Serve as substitute teacher in the absence of licensed staff when holding or obtaining TSPC licensure.

12.    Implement provided lesson plans and maintain instructional continuity.

13.    Support classroom structure, expectations, and student engagement during teacher absences.

Collaboration & Program Operations
14.    Collaborate with mental health providers, outside agencies, and educational teams.

15.    Support data collection and outcome monitoring.

16.    Provide general clerical and organizational program support.

17.    Contribute to a positive, team-based therapeutic school culture.

18.    Perform other duties as assigned.

 

SALARY AND BENEFIT INFORMATION

  • Salary and benefit information shown are based on full-time employment (1.0 FTE) based on the current school year
  • Placement on the Linn Benton Lincoln ESD Classified salary schedule will be commensurate with applicant’s qualifications, relevant training, and experience
  • Linn Benton Lincoln ESD will provide an Insurance CAP to assist with health, dental and vision insurance premiums 
  • Employer paid PERS, holidays, sick leave and personal days are also provided
  • Employer paid Life Insurance 1 x annual salary
  • Employer paid Basic AD&D and Long Term Disability
  • May qualify for a Cell Phone/Data Stipend

  • Members may request leave from the sick leave bank in the event of a catastrophic illness or injury

Doctor Appointment Leave

  • Up to 3 hours per month
