What are the responsibilities and job description for the Weekend/Event Custodian position at Linn-Benton Community College?
Supports the Facilities and Custodial team by performing a wide range of custodial duties to ensure a clean, safe, inviting environment where students, staff and the public can learn, gather and work.
Essential Duties:
Provide custodial services after events and meetings on weekends and on Fridays during college closures. Will need to drive college owned vehicles to satellite campuses in order to provide custodial services following events and meetings held at other campuses.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Physical Skills and Abilities: Position involves sustained walking, pushing, pulling, and lifting various weights up to 60 pounds. Requires the ability to bend, twist, and stoop repeatedly during an eight-hour work shift. Eighty percent of job duties require repetitive arm and shoulder motions with 10 to 60 pounds of exertion. Requires ability to climb (e.g. ladders), kneel, and crouch.
Working Conditions: Work is predominantly indoors. Some work outdoors when cleaning core areas, covered walkways, stairs, entrances, windows and/or when assisting ground crews where there may be some exposure to inclement weather. Some exposure to hazardous fumes, chemicals, and/or sprays associated with cleaning materials. May have some exposure to blood borne pathogens, body fluids, etc. Some exposure to noise extremes when operating equipment such as buffers, extractors and vacuums.. 180 work days are determined by June for the following fiscal year (July – June). Shift will primarily be on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday (during the school terms). Shift hours may change due to the needs of the college but will typically be 2:00 – 10:00. Will travel to satellite centers for custodial services as needed.

Position requires demonstrated ability to read, write, and communicate at a level sufficient to perform all of the essential duties of the position.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
One-year of full-time custodial experience in a large public facility with extended hours of operation and multiple high-traffic areas is preferred.
Licenses and Certificates: A valid Oregon driver’s license is required to travel between campuses. Must complete blood borne pathogens and hazardous materials training prior to beginning those assigned tasks. Forklift certification is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Requires knowledge of the methods of cleaning and preserving floors, walls, and fixtures. Must know use, and precautions associated with use, of cleaning materials, disinfectants and equipment used in custodial work. Must be familiar with operation and upkeep of power equipment including buffers, vacuums, wet vacuums, pressure washers, floor scrubbers, and extractors. Must have a good knowledge of work hazards and safety procedures. Requires some knowledge of chemical reactions.
Abilities: Must be able to perform all of the essential duties of the position independently, with limited supervision and according to well-established quality and safety standards. Requires ability to sufficiently read and understand instructions, safety materials, labels on detergents, and chemicals used in cleaning; and the ability to read and understand SDS sheets. Must be able to maintain tools and equipment in a safe working condition. Requires the ability to perform routine maintenance tasks and to be able to determine when to refer more complex maintenance requirements to a supervisor. Must be able to learn quickly the schedules, policies, and procedures associated with duties. Must be able to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Must be able to follow oral and written directions. Must be able to complete and understand blood borne pathogen training and hazardous materials training. Must be able to use a computer to complete online training and submit time sheets. Must be able to work respectfully with individuals of all cultures, backgrounds, perspectives, and abilities.

Information Regarding the Salary Placement Process:
According to the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between LBCC and the Independent Association of Classified Employees (IACE), all Classified employees begin at Step 1 of the salary schedule, corresponding to the position’s grade. Placement at a higher step on the schedule is not negotiable, except by mutual written agreement of Association leadership and LBCC Human Resources. These exceptions are uncommon, and only granted in limited circumstances.
The Weekend/Event Custodian position is graded as a Grade 9 at a .73 FTE. Step 1 on the Classified salary schedule for this grade is $26,458 for a 181-day Fiscal Year appointment, prorated at .73 FTE. Progression on the salary schedule is subject to the terms and conditions laid out in the IACE Collective Bargaining Agreement.
