What are the responsibilities and job description for the [POOL] Instructional Assistant 2 position at Linn-Benton Community College?
This posting is for a pooled position. Application submissions for “[POOL]” positions are accepted on an ongoing basis to ensure a continuous and ready pool of qualified candidates for immediate review when the need arises. Sets up Medical Assisting labs and cleans up after labs for instructors, assists instructors with demonstrations, and assists with students during practice and evaluations. Helps maintain supply inventory.
- Observes students’ technical skills for proficiency. Assists theory instructors in development of skills lab curriculum and techniques, administers and proctors quizzes/tests. Monitors and assists with skills demonstrations.
- Provides demonstrations, monitors and assists students practicing a wide variety of medical assisting skills including use of instruments, proper sterilization skills, proper personal protective equipment, etc. Provides for individual instruction and tutoring for students needing to make up labs or needing additional assistance.
- Assembles and maintains necessary equipment for skills labs. Maintains a clean and orderly classroom/lab with supplies stocked for skills labs. Ensures all valuable or dangerous equipment is locked in storage rooms between sessions (i.e., needles, syringes, medications, etc.).
- Checks out to students and ensures return of instruments, equipment, and materials.
- Maintains a specific equipment/inventory storage system master plan and provides Medical Assisting faculty with this information. Provides coordinator with supply list for ordering.
- Assists instructors in maintenance of student records and tracking of skills check off and attendance.
- Participates in divisional activities as assigned by supervisor.
- Communicates regularly with the Medical Assisting department faculty.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.

- Position requires certification as a Medical Assistant plus recent experience working in the Medical Assisting field.
Licenses and Certificates:
- Current Certified Medical Assistant
Knowledge and Skills:
- Must have a working knowledge of instructional techniques and skills sufficient to instruct and tutor students on an informal level.
- Considerable technical knowledge in the specific area of Medical Assisting is necessary.
- Requires working knowledge of safety practices, and proper operation and techniques for use of equipment in the industry.
- Strong communication skills required in order to interact with and assist students.
Abilities:
- Ability to set up and maintain laboratory and equipment in a safe, clean and functional manner is required.
- Requires the ability to set up student projects which meet the instructional goals of faculty.
- Must be able to instruct students in the use of equipment and supplies and personal protective equipment.
- Must be able to communicate in both formal and informal settings with students, instructors, and other interested parties.
- Must be able to work respectfully with individuals of all cultures, backgrounds, perspectives, and abilities.
Physical Skills and Abilities:
Physical ability to stand for extended periods of time and operate equipment, tools, and instruments in the Medical Assisting field. Sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate laboratory equipment. Requires the ability to communicate effectively with staff and students. Requires visual acuity to read words and numbers and operate lab equipment. Thirty percent or more of the time duties require standing and some kneeling, stooping or crouching plus lifting of light to medium weight (10-50 pounds) with or without an accommodation.
