According to the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between LBCC and the Independent Association of Classified Employees (IACE), all Classified employees begin at Step 1 of the salary schedule, corresponding to the position's grade. Placement at a higher step on the schedule is not negotiable, except by mutual written agreement of Association leadership and LBCC Human Resources. These exceptions are uncommon, and only granted in limited circumstances.

Position Title: Instructional Assistant 2 Employment Requirement Criminal Background Check - C4 Division/Department: Non-Destructive Testing Location Albany Campus, Albany, OR Job Summary:
Assists and supports Non-Destructive Testing instructors in providing instruction and assistance to individual students or students identified as disadvantaged.
Required Qualifications
Knowledge and Skills: Must have a working knowledge of instructional techniques and skills sufficient to instruct and tutor students on an informal level. Advanced technical knowledge in the specific area of Non-Destructive Testing is necessary.
Requires working knowledge of safety practices and proper operation and techniques for use of equipment in Non-Destructive Testing facilities. Must have knowledge of safe and proper use of common hand and power tools. Must have advanced knowledge of the tools, materials, methods and processes used in Non-Destructive Testing service and repair. Requires effective communication skills to interact with and assist students.
Abilities: Ability to set up and maintain laboratory and equipment in a safe, clean, and functional manner is required. Requires the ability to set up student projects that meet the instructional goals of faculty. Must be able to instruct students in the use of Non-Destructive Testing equipment and supplies, and personal protective equipment. Requires the ability to work with students one-to-one and in small groups as needed. Must be able to communicate in both formal and informal settings with students, instructors, and other interested parties. Must be able to work respectfully with individuals from all backgrounds, cultures and perspectives.
Education and Experience: Position requires an Associates of Applied Science in a skilled discipline related to Non-Destructive Testing or Career Technical Education. Industry certifications equivalent on a year to year basis may substitute for education requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
Relevant training received in the community college is preferred.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
Physical Skills and Abilities: Physical ability to stand for extended periods of time and operate demanding equipment. Sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate equipment. Requires normal hearing and speaking skills to communicate with staff and students. Requires visual acuity to read words and numbers and operate lab equipment. Thirty percent or more of the job duties require standing, and some kneeling, stooping, or crouching, plus lifting of light to medium weight (10 to 50 pounds). Position requires operation of technically demanding equipment 75% percent of the time.
Working Conditions: Work is performed in college industrial labs and classrooms with potential exposure to ventilation extremes 15 percent of the time. Some tasks require special handling due to hazards and contaminants. Minimal time is spent working on a computer.

Essential Duties
- Assists or tutors students in completing assigned class activities by observing the student performing the assigned tasks and asking questions of the student, making sure the student knows correct materials, tools, equipment, and methods to complete the assignment. This includes developing materials and providing individualized instruction to disadvantaged students and students needing additional assistance.
- Observes students work for proper safety procedures and use of personal protective equipment. May update safety procedures and practices, and maintain MSDS information. May stock safety supplies, i.e. gloves, safety glasses, and earplugs. Assists with inventory control, including hazardous material tracking, storage, and use.
- Maintains assigned work areas in a clean and safe condition. Performs regular maintenance to laboratory equipment and machines, or coordinates needed repairs. Maintains supplies, parts and tools needed for the laboratory to include placing orders, obtaining bids, and/or purchasing items.
- May oversee work of one or more student employees.
- Assists in building and maintaining NDT training equipment and NDT labs under direction of instructor.
- Prepares lab equipment to facilitate demonstrations and/or lab assignments by setting up the correct equipment, materials, and tools needed for the assignments. May assist staff with preparation of instructional and testing materials.
- Coordinates and assists with Non-Destructive Testing facility tours and area high school recruiting sessions for Non-Destructive Testing. Prepares facility for tour groups. Maintains stock of program literature, flyers, catalogs, etc. Prepared to discuss program/LBCC job placement assistance, pay scales, benefits, career alternatives, limitations, employment opportunities, etc., specific to tour group.
- Provides feedback to faculty regarding student progress on assignments and provides input on grading.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
