Job Summary
We are seeking highly skilled interpreters to support in-person Educational and Academic Meetings. This role requires strong proficiency in academic, pedagogical, and school-related terminology, along with the ability to provide precise, unbiased interpretation in formal school environments. Interpreters will play a critical role in ensuring clear communication between educators, students, and families while upholding strict confidentiality and professional standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide accurate, complete, and impartial interpretation during parent-teacher conferences, student evaluation meetings, and academic disciplinary hearings.
- Interpret in real-time while preserving tone, intent, and educational context.
- Ensure all parties (teachers, parents, and students) fully understand statements, goals, and feedback without omission or alteration.
School & Academic Protocol:
- Demonstrate familiarity with educational procedures, school policies, and specialized student support programs (e.g., IEP or counseling meetings).
- Maintain professionalism at all times in formal school and administrative environments.
- Follow instructions from school principals, counselors, and educational coordinators as required.
Terminology & Accuracy:
- Apply strong knowledge of educational, pedagogical, and psychological terminology used in school settings.
- Clarify ambiguities when necessary while maintaining neutrality and pedagogical accuracy.
- Avoid summarization—interpret accurately to ensure parents fully grasp their child's academic progress.
Cultural Competence & Ethics:
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding student records and family privacy (FERPA / local school privacy laws).
- Demonstrate cultural awareness and sensitivity when facilitating communication with diverse families.
- Adhere to educational interpreter codes of ethics and professional conduct.
Availability & Reliability:
- Attend scheduled in-person school meetings promptly and prepared.
- Maintain consistent communication with school administration and scheduling coordinators.
- Be flexible to support urgent or time-sensitive academic situations when needed.
Documentation & Reporting:
- Accurately document interpretation hours, meeting dates, and school locations.
- Report any communication barriers, conflicts, or ethical concerns encountered during meetings to the school administration.
Qualifications:
- Fluency in English and Spanish.
- Proven experience in educational, community, or academic interpretation.
- Interpreter certification (preferred) or relevant professional training in educational settings.
Skills:
