Job Title: Lead Substation Engineer – Physical

LineWorks Engineering is seeking an experienced and highly skilled Lead Substation Physical Engineer to join our growing substation team. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding and experience with performing system analysis, design, inspections, and other related assignments for electrical substations. This role is for an experienced engineer with a focus on substation design, electrical engineering, and project management within the electric utility industry. This mid-level engineer will apply their knowledge of engineering principles, substation design, and construction practices while exercising professional judgment to ensure quality and efficiency.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Science in engineering from an ABET-accredited engineering program
• Engineer in Training Certificate (EIT) preferred and Professional Engineering (PE) license or the ability to obtain one is a plus
• Minimum of 6 years of substation physical engineering experience in the electric utility industry
• Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
• Strong understanding of substation design, construction, and commissioning processes
• Familiarity with industry standards, codes, and regulatory requirements
• Ability to apply engineering principles to solve complex technical problems
• Proficient in the following industry software: AutoCAD, grading software, Inventor and Microsoft Office Suite
• Willing to travel for on-site work responsibilities involving occasional overnight travel to locations for meetings with clients, vendors, and equipment suppliers
• Pre-employment drug screening, background check and valid drivers license

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct substation system analysis and perform design calculations to ensure the safety and performance of electrical substations
• Perform assessments of substation installations and existing infrastructure
• Perform analysis, design and development of standard details, drawings, specifications and transmission/substation facilities, structures, and foundations
• Support the development and review of substation design drawings, specifications, and construction documents
• Stay up-to-date with industry standards, regulations, and best practices for electrical substations
• Collaborate with other engineers, clients, and contractors to ensure project goals are met
• Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers and other team members as needed
• Assist in the preparation of progress reports, compliance documentation, and record-keeping of transmission and substation technical documents and drawings
• Prepare contract documents and specifications, conduct evaluation of bid proposals, and prepare purchase requisitions
