Position Title: Assistant Director of YouthLine Education and Outreach of Hawai'i
Status: Full-Time/Exempt
Reports To: YouthLine Director Hawai’i
Compensation: $68,000 - $78,500 DOE, plus benefits.
Location: Maui, HI

Schedule: Initially Monday – Friday 8:30 am – 5 pm with occasional evenings and weekends. As YouthLine programs grow in Hawaii, this position will include some additional evening shifts with youth volunteers. This position requires a hybrid schedule which includes working in-person at the YouthLine Hawai’i headquarters generally 3 days per week when not doing offsite outreach.

Lines for Life is a regional non-profit that is dedicated to preventing substance abuse and suicide. We offer help and hope to individuals and communities and promote mental health for all. Our work addresses a spectrum of needs that include intervention, prevention, and advocacy. We educate, train, and advocate to prevent issues of substance abuse, mental illness, and thoughts of suicide from reaching crisis levels. But when a crisis arises or support is needed, we are available 24/7/365 to intervene with personalized help.

Assistant Director of YouthLine Education and Outreach of Hawai'i
Position Summary: This position manages Lines for Life’s YouthLine Outreach program, collaborating with YouthLine Deputy Directors to establish strategic direction for program outreach initiatives in order to: increase awareness of YouthLine services, provide education for youth and youth-serving agencies on suicide prevention, and teach mental wellness; recruit volunteers for the YouthLine Program; and reach underserved and unrepresented communities. This position also collaborates with the YouthLine Communications Manager on social media outreach and maintains informational print and web-based materials for the YouthLine. This position acts as a working manager who joins the Outreach Coordinator to achieve goals and meet outcomes as needed. The right candidate will be energetic, empathetic, and motivated by promoting mental health education and awareness to youth.

Assistant Director of YouthLine Education and Outreach of Hawai'i
Responsibilities:
  • Strategic planning and leadership
    • Demonstrate the culture of Lines for Life by modeling behavior that supports the goals and philosophies of Lines for Life.
    • Participate in creating and implementing YouthLine strategic goals with other members of the program’s leadership team.
    • Participate with YouthLine Directors to develop a scalable and sustainable strategy for statewide YouthLine education and outreach programs, which includes identifying strategies to increase engagement with underrepresented and underserved communities.
    • Recruit, onboard, supervise, evaluate, and coach YouthLine Outreach Coordinator in Hawai’i.
    • Collaborate with the Development team on grant writing and reporting for education and outreach related opportunities.
    • Actively participate in the fiscal oversight and budget process for YouthLine and the YouthLine Hawai’i budget.
  • Outreach Oversight and Facilitation
    • Support outreach activities by facilitating classroom education and participating in outreach events.
    • Supervise YouthLine staff, interns, and volunteers at classroom and community outreach events including workshops, conferences, youth presentations, and tabling events. Establish rapport and assist with establishing mentorship relationships between YouthLine outreach staff and volunteers.
    • Provide a framework to the YouthLine Hawai’i team and for the identification and implementation of classroom and community education and outreach events that meet YouthLine Outreach Intentions: Raise awareness of YouthLine, Destigmatize mental health, Normalize help-seeking behaviors and other skill-building, Offer resources, Culturally relevant resources for underserved communities, and Volunteer recruitment. Incorporate robust volunteer recruitment tools in that framework.
    • Train outreach staff on best practices for delivering in-class presentations educating students and the community about youth mental health, suicide, drug and alcohol, bullying, and other topics that relate to Lines for Life and the YouthLine’s mission. Provide training and guidance on how to manage difficult questions.
    • Collaborate with YouthLine and Lines for Life staff and volunteers to promote and run special events.
    • Design initial evaluative tools to measure progress and success of outreach and education in Maui and Hawaii. Collaborate with YouthLine and community partners to review, report, update and evaluate data.
    • Collaborate with YouthLine and Lines for Life staff to construct, collect and report data to measure progress and success of outreach and education programs and training.
    • Support the training of new volunteers, staff, and interns.
  • Networking & Partnership Development
    • Develop new strategic partnership opportunities that support the efforts of the YouthLine and Lines for Life, including but not limited to: law enforcement, school districts, community mental health, pediatrics, and other youth-oriented providers.
    • Maintain and strengthen existing partnerships statewide via collaborative meetings, trainings, educational presentations, and outreach. Collaborate with state-level partner agencies to inform policy level recommendations to and reduce youth suicide.
    • Coordinate and speak at events and forums that promote mental health, wellness, and reducing stigma.
    • Identify barriers and make recommendations to address challenges with developing the Hawai'i YouthLine Education and Outreach Program.
    • Provide direction and recommendations for building relationships and communicating with Hawaii community and other stakeholders.
  • YouthLine Social Media and Website
    • Collaborate with the YouthLine Communications Manager on the maintenance, evolution, and strategic growth of YouthLine’s social media presence. Delegate responsibilities to Outreach Coordinator members as appropriate.
    • Collaborate with YouthLine Leadership to support the program website, including regular updates, content edits, and strategic growth to better serve constituents with the program’s online presence.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Assistant Director of YouthLine Education and Outreach of Hawai'i Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in the social services/mental health field
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working with youth
  • Ability to occasionally commit to overnight travel to meet obligations for outreach in outlying areas
  • Must have reliable transportation
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Supervision experience or demonstrated supervisory skills
  • Experience with or demonstrated skills teaching or facilitating presentation for groups
  • Strong aptitude for networking with and engaging various groups of people
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and a web-based computer environment
  • Intermediate social media skills
  • Ability to manage stressful situations with professionalism and care

Assistant Director of YouthLine Education and Outreach of Hawai'i
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in the social services/mental health field/education
  • Experience working in adolescent mental health
  • Experience teaching/presenting in classrooms and the community
  • Crisis Intervention Training (i.e., ASIST, safeTALK, Youth Mental Health First Aid, etc.)
  • Organizational development experience and/or demonstrated skills in systems-thinking approaches
Assistant Director of YouthLine Education and Outreach of Hawai'i Work Schedule: This position requires a flexible schedule to attend outreach meetings, trainings, and events. This position will occasionally work evenings, weekends, and holidays. This position will regularly travel to schools, community events, and meetings within the state of Hawai’i. This position will occasionally travel to Oregon for meetings, training, and professional development.

Compensation Package:
The starting wage for this position is $68,000 - $78,500 depending on relevant education, trainings, and experience. Worksite to worksite mileage reimbursement is provided at the IRS reimbursement rate when required to travel for outreach events.
