Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and safety-conscious Utility Locator to join our team in Topeka, KS. The Utility Locator will be responsible for identifying and marking underground utilities to prevent damage during excavation and construction projects. The ideal candidate will have experience with utility locating equipment, strong communication skills, and a commitment to workplace safety.

Key Responsibilities

• Locate and mark underground utilities including gas, water, sewer, electric, and telecommunications lines using specialized equipment.
• Interpret utility maps, blueprints, and drawings to accurately identify utility locations.
• Communicate with contractors, construction crews, and utility companies to coordinate locating activities.
• Maintain accurate records of utility locations and provide detailed reports.
• Follow all safety protocols and regulations to ensure a safe work environment.
• Respond promptly to locate requests and complete assignments within established timeframes.
• Perform routine maintenance and calibration of locating equipment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience in utility locating or related field preferred.
• Familiarity with utility locating equipment such as electromagnetic locators and ground-penetrating radar.
• Ability to read and interpret maps, blueprints, and technical drawings.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.

Work Environment

This position involves working outdoors on construction sites and other locations where underground utilities are present. The role requires physical activity including walking, standing, and occasional lifting. Safety is a top priority, and adherence to all safety guidelines is mandatory.
