Locate Technician

Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Locate Technician to join our team in Overland Park, KS. The Locate Technician will be responsible for identifying and marking underground utility lines to ensure safe excavation and construction activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Respond to locate requests and accurately identify underground utilities including gas, water, electric, and telecommunications lines.
• Use specialized equipment such as ground-penetrating radar, electromagnetic locators, and GPS devices to detect and mark utility lines.
• Mark utility locations clearly and accurately using paint, flags, or stakes according to industry standards and local regulations.
• Maintain detailed records of locate activities, including maps, reports, and communication logs.
• Communicate effectively with contractors, utility companies, and customers to provide information and resolve locate-related issues.
• Follow all safety protocols and regulatory requirements to ensure a safe working environment.
• Perform routine maintenance and calibration of locating equipment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience in utility locating, construction, or related field preferred.
• Familiarity with underground utility systems and local/state regulations.
• Ability to operate locating equipment and technology effectively.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Work Environment

This position requires working outdoors on construction sites and public rights-of-way. The role involves walking, standing, and occasional lifting. Safety is a top priority.
