The Director of Residence Life is a full-time, 12 month live-in position that oversees all Residential housing as well as all residential students. They supervise a staff of 7-8 Resident Hall Directors including Area Coordinators and 34-37 Resident Assistants. The Director of Residence Life collaborates with several other departments on campus to help ensure the safety of students as well as the conduct of all residential students and helps to make the residential experience conducive to a living and learning environment. The Director serves the interest of all residential students, ensures smooth operations, and guarantees quality customer service for all constituents (students, campus partners, prospective families, etc.).

Duties and Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities for this position include the following.

  • Oversees the daily operations of all Residential facilities including maintenance requests and the safety of the building
  • Supervises a staff of Area Coordinators, Resident Directors, and Resident Assistants
  • Creates an on call schedule for both Resident Directors and Resident Assistants
  • Acts as the campus Sexual Assault Liaison and collaborates with the Title IX Coordinator as well as community partners to assist any student who may need those services.
  • Oversees all conduct issues in collaboration with the Dean of Students’ office
  • Collaborates with Admissions when housing incoming freshmen as well as oversees all of the housing for residential students
  • Coordinates and oversees the training necessary for the College’s Professional Staff and the staff of Resident Assistants.
  • Collaborates with Physical Plant Operations to ensure the cleanliness and maintenance of each Residential Hall, and places fines to student accounts when applicable.
  • Collaborates with the Director of Student Activities regarding programs and activities during move-in weekend as well as throughout the year
  • Responsible for reviewing and approving time-sheets for the Resident Directors
  • Responsible for assignment and supervision of secondary duties for each Resident Director
  • Collaborates with Resident Directors to provide guidance on any roommate conflicts
  • Oversees all housing assignments for residential students as well any switch in housing assignments throughout the year
  • Reports to the Dean of Students’ office
  • Other duties as assigned.

The position requires an individual to be proficient with the following technology.

  • Microsoft Office including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

Education and Experience

The position requires the minimum amount of education, field of study or area of training, specific skills, and/or experience listed below.

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Master’s Degree in Higher Education, Administration, or related field strongly preferred.
  • At least one year of experience in Higher Education
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Some experience may be substituted for educational requirements at the discretion of the hiring manager
