Position Summary
The Lab Tech/ Chemist is responsible for the formulation, research and development, GHS conformance, quality control, product documentation, and technical product inquiries. This position requires strong problem-solving skills and chemistry background.
Essential Job Functions
- Daily testing and approvals of samples for all shipments both incoming and outgoing (flashpoint, moisture, gravity, aniline, viscosity – 100F/210F/40cS, appearance, density, emulsion test, pH, oven test, particle count, infrared curve)
- Record test information and send COA to customers
- Beaker blending for performance testing
- Create GHS Labels
- Create and maintain SDS and TDS for all products
- Create/Provide new formulas as needed for customer applications
- Work on material cost out projects
- Provide required documentation for USMCA
- Provide technical support to sales team including training as needed
- Relay any government requirements to the internal team as changes occur
- Make recommendations to customers based on requested oil analysis
- Meet with suppliers of raw materials as needed
- Determine proper product disposal methods within lab
- Maintain organization and neatness of lab
- Monitor and order all consumables used in the lab
- Practice safe work habits, including complying with all safety, health, and environmental rules and regulations
- Organize and catalog quality documents
- Quality control for continuous improvement

- Education: Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry / Engineering or related field
- Experience: 3 – 5 years of lab experience OR 3 years lab experience with formulation
- Knowledge of gear oil, hydraulic oil, way lube, process oils and cutting oils a plus
- Ability to multi-task and work under pressure
- Attention to detail to ensure the highest quality levels
- Solid written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail with accuracy
- Strong Computer skills including MS Office and spreadsheet creation including graphing and calculation
- Solid mathematical and problem-solving skills
- Self-motivated and strong ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Strong ability to share ideas in a logical manner
- Able to negotiate and obtain consensus with team members, customers, and vendors
