Founded in 1974, the Lindenhurst Youth Center is the safe haven in our community where young
people congregate, build meaningful relationships, and find a true sense of belonging. As a non-
profit organization, we are committed to developing social skills, fostering a positive self-image, and
creating inclusive environments where kids have access to programs and experiences they may not
find elsewhere. Our Drop-In Lounge welcomes all youth ages 10–17 from the Village of Lindenhurst
and surrounding areas, and our calendar of events, from tournaments and field trips to parties and
community programming, reflects our dedication to enriching the lives of the young people we
serve.
Position Summary
The Assistant Director plays a vital leadership role in the day-to-day operations of the Lindenhurst
Youth Center. Working closely with the Director, this individual will help guide staff, oversee center
programming, strengthen community partnerships, and serve as a positive role model for the youth
we serve. The ideal candidate is energetic, community-minded, and committed to growing a small
but impactful non-profit organization.
Primary Responsibilities
- Communication: Serve as the primary point of contact for daily phone calls, emails, and digital inquiries.
- Records & Filing: Maintain organized filing systems and accurate records for center activities and youth intake.
- Financial Oversight: Work with the Director and bookkeeper to track expenses, manage event budgets, and ensure financial compliance.
- Facility Protocols: Execute daily opening and closing procedures to secure the building.
- Inventory: Manage stock and reordering for all office, kitchen, program, and event supplies.
- Supervision: Oversee center staff and volunteers during daily operations and special functions.
- Scheduling: Build and manage staff schedules to guarantee proper coverage at all times.
- Evaluations: Assist with staff evaluations and ensure team members fulfill their job descriptions during events.
- Project Management: Plan and execute center events, managing timelines, vendor contracts, rentals, and run-of-show logistics.
- Research & Proposals: Identify youth trends to develop engaging activities and write proposals to improve center operations.
- Atmosphere & Setup: Oversee physical setup, decoration themes, and overall event execution.
- Content Creation: Manage all social media channels to promote upcoming programs, events, and youth achievements.
- Brand Management: Maintain consistent messaging aligned with the center’s mission across all marketing materials.
- Youth Recruitment: Lead engagement and outreach efforts to recruit new members ages 10–17.
- Partnerships: Cultivate relationships with local organizations, guest speakers, and sponsors to expand community programming.
- Statistical Analysis: Track and report program participation data for Town of Babylon reporting, board updates, and organizational records.
Qualifications & Requirements
• Strong desire to support and grow a small, community-based non-profit organization.
• Previous experience working with youth ages 10–17 in a structured program, recreational, or
educational setting.
• Previous experience supervising staff or volunteers.
• Previous experience maintaining staff and client records.
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
• Strong networking, negotiation, and conflict management and resolution abilities.
• Resourceful team player and self-starter with the ability to work independently.
• Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and occasional weekends.
• Physically active and able to fully participate in youth center activities.
• Valid New York State Driver's License required.
• First aid certification preferred; ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
• Bilingual and bicultural skills are desirable but not required.
• Must complete sexual harassment and mandated reporter trainings within 30 days of hire.
• Must pass an extensive background check.
Education
High School Diploma or GED is required. A bachelor's degree in Social Work, Education, Recreation, Sociology, Counseling, or a closely related field is preferred. Relevant work experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Candidates currently pursuing a degree in a related field are encouraged to apply.
