Overview
We are seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic Service Technician to join our team. This role involves diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of heavy-duty diesel equipment, including farm machinery, industrial equipment, and vehicle fleets. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with automotive diagnostics, mechanical systems, and heavy equipment operation. A background in dealership service, fabrication, and working with Caterpillar or similar machinery is highly desirable. Duties
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on diesel engines, transmissions, hydraulics, suspension systems, and air brake systems.
- Conduct diagnostic assessments using schematics and electronic testing tools to identify issues accurately.
- Repair or replace components such as shocks & struts, tires, brakes, HVAC systems, and welding repairs as needed.
- Operate heavy equipment including excavators, cranes, forklifts, and tractor-trailers for testing and repair purposes.
- Fabricate parts or modifications using power tools and hand tools to meet specific repair requirements.
- Conduct alignment procedures and ensure proper vehicle maintenance for optimal performance.
- Troubleshoot electrical systems and perform soldering when necessary for wiring repairs.
- Maintain detailed service records and communicate effectively with customers regarding repairs needed or completed.
- Adhere to safety protocols during all repair activities to ensure a safe working environment.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Diesel Mechanic Service Technician with a strong background in automotive repair and heavy equipment maintenance.
- Dealership experience is preferred but not mandatory; extensive hands-on experience with heavy machinery is essential.
- Proficiency in reading schematics and understanding complex mechanical diagrams.
- Ability to operate heavy equipment such as excavators, cranes, forklifts, tractors, and other industrial machinery safely and efficiently.
- Knowledge of diesel engine repair, transmissions, hydraulics, suspension systems, HVAC systems, air brakes, wheel alignment, shocks & struts, tire service, welding, and electrical systems.
- Skilled in the use of hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and welding apparatus.
- Ability to lift heavy components safely and perform physically demanding tasks regularly.
- Strong mechanical knowledge combined with excellent customer service skills for effective communication with clients.
- Certifications related to automotive diagnostics or heavy equipment operation are advantageous but not required. This position requires a dedicated professional capable of performing complex repairs while maintaining high safety standards. Candidates should be committed to quality workmanship and continuous learning within the field of diesel technology and heavy equipment maintenance.
