Job Overview
The Process Technician is responsible for ensuring dimensional accuracy and weld quality within the production process. This role involves interpreting measurement data, adjusting fixtures and tooling, troubleshooting equipment (including robotic systems), and driving continuous improvement in quality and efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Interpret CMM reports and translate measurement data into fixture (jig) adjustments
- Utilize systems such as Mapvision, CMM, and gauges to analyze and correct dimensional issues
- Understand and apply vehicle coordinate systems to support accurate adjustments
- Perform mechanical troubleshooting and adjustments using hand tools and maintenance practices
- Diagnose and resolve issues using root cause analysis methods (e.g., 5 Why)
- Troubleshoot pneumatic systems including clamps, pins, and sensors
- Operate, adjust, and troubleshoot robotic welding systems (KUKA) (Move robots in X, Y, and Z axes; Perform robot reset, startup, and shutdown procedures; Teach robot points and paths; Identify and correct issues such as gun misalignment, tip wear/contamination, and TCP errors)
- Monitor weld quality and ensure adherence to standards (Identify good vs. bad welds; Determine root causes of weld defects and implement corrective actions)
- Understand weld systems (e.g., SKS) and optimize weld parameters
- Complete shift reports and document production or quality issues
- Track and respond to key performance indicators (KPIs), including scrap, downtime, OEE and rework
- Support first-time quality initiatives for both geometry and welds
- Monitor production processes and react quickly to issues requiring rework or adjustment
- Collaborate with team members and cross-functional departments to resolve issues
- Maintain or improve OEE and reduce scrap and rework
- Demonstrate ability to make effective adjustments (targeting high success rate)
- Support continuous improvement in quality and efficiency
- Ensure timely response to production issues
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Ability to read and interpret CMM reports
- Strong mechanical aptitude (auto repair, maintenance, use of hand tools)
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- High attention to detail with a focus on precision and accuracy
- Ability to work with a sense of urgency in a production environment
- Strong teamwork, communication, and collaboration skills
- Accountability and ownership of assigned work
- Experience with robotic systems, preferably KUKA robots
- Familiarity with root cause analysis methodologies (e.g., 5 Why)
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Excel and Word)
- Experience working in a manufacturing environment
- Knowledge of pneumatic systems and components
- Understanding of weld quality standards and defect identification
- Interaction with automated and robotic equipment
