Monthly Salary: Teacher State Salary Schedule (plus local supplement)
Terms of Contract: 10 months, full-time, benefit eligible
FLSA: EXEMPT
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Applicants must hold or be eligible to hold a North Carolina teaching license in appropriate licensure area
- Dual certification preferred
- Will accept K-6 applicants willing to meet licensure requirements
Goal: To help each pupil develop competence in basic mathematical skills and an understanding of the structure of mathematics; to motivate each pupil to apply mathematical understanding and skills in the solution of practical problems; and to encourage pupils to develop their special talents in the field of mathematics.
Duties:
- Teach courses in mathematics to secondary pupils using the course of study adopted by the Board of Education and appropriate curriculum publications as guidelines in teaching individual course content
- Instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district
- Develop lesson plans and appropriate instructional aids stressing discovery and laboratory learning methods
- Demonstrate mathematical concepts using models, chalkboard, overhead projector, calculators, computers, and other standard or teacher-prepared instructional aids
- Provide opportunities when needed for individualized and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil
- Design learning activities that will relate mathematics to the physical world
- Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment
- Evaluate each pupil’s progress in mathematical knowledge and skills
- Select and requisition books, instructional aids, and instructional supplies; maintain required inventory records
- Communicate with parents to interpret contemporary methods in teaching mathematics and with parents and school counselors to discuss the individual pupil’s progress
- Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems
- Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day
- Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs
- Share in the sponsorship of student activities such as mathematic teams, and participate in faculty committees
- Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district, and in self-selected professional growth activities
- Must be able to perform heavy work exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of forces frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift objects
- Other duties as assigned
