PURPOSE:
The Postdoctoral Research Associate will contribute to the research and implementation of a Climate-Smart Productive Alley Cropping System (PACS) at Lincoln University. This role focuses on enhancing farm resilience, promoting sustainable agricultural practices, and supporting historically underserved farmers in Missouri.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan and implement research activities related to soil health, carbon storage, and crop productivity within alley cropping systems.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret data for detailed reports and presentations.
- Write manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications.
- Develop educational materials and conduct workshops aimed at training farmers and extension agents on best management practices for alley cropping systems.
- Assist in the coordination of project activities to ensure timely completion of milestones and deliverables.
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- PhD. in Agroforestry, Forestry, Soil Science, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience in conducting field research in agroecological systems.
- Evidence of scholarly publications in peer-reviewed journals related to agroforestry or soil science.
PREFERRD QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with alley cropping, agroforestry, or climate-smart agriculture practices.
- Familiarity with greenhouse gas emissions monitoring.
- Familiarity with community engagement and educational outreach.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Ability to perform fieldwork, including lifting equipment and field supplies up to 50 pounds.
- Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
