What are the responsibilities and job description for the Multi-Campus Diesel Trainer position at Lincoln Tech?
Join Lincoln Tech in partnership with NJ Transit to train their workforce on the systems that keep one of the nation’s largest public transit fleets moving. This role is built for high‑level diesel and electrical/electronic technicians who understand modern bus powertrains, multiplexed electronics, and advanced diagnostic workflows — and who want to share that expertise with working NJ Transit professionals.
This is not a desk job. It’s a hands‑on, mobile, fleet‑integrated training role working across NJ Transit facilities. If you know heavy‑duty diesel, electrical networks, and modern vehicle controls inside and out, your experience will directly shape the next generation of transit technicians.
What You Will Teach
You will deliver NJ Transit’s diesel and electronic systems curriculum, including:
Advanced Diesel Systems
- Heavy‑duty diesel engine diagnostics and repair
- Aftertreatment systems (DPF, DOC, SCR)
- Fuel, air, and turbo systems
- Engine‑embedded diagnostics using OEM software
- Live troubleshooting in real fleet environments
Modern Electronic & Control Systems
- CAN bus architecture, sub‑CAN systems, and fault tracing
- Electronic Control Units (ECUs), TCMs, and VCU logic
- Multiplexing, logic trees, and module interaction
- Reading, interpreting, and teaching OEM wiring diagrams
- Sensor/actuator testing, waveform analysis, and signal integrity
Transmission & Powertrain Diagnostics
- Full system operation and diagnostics of Allison transmissions
- TCM communication, prognostics, and fault retrieval
- Hands‑on instruction using diagnostic software and OEM tools
Vehicle Safety & Brake Systems
- Pneumatic and electronic brake control systems
- ABS/EBS diagnostics
- Safety inspections aligned with NJ Transit fleet standards
How You Will Train NJ Transit Technicians
- Deliver hands‑on instruction in classrooms, workshops, and live fleet bays.
- Teach diagnostic thinking, not checkbox troubleshooting.
- Work side‑by‑side with NJ Transit technicians on real vehicles, lifts, and electrical systems.
- Travel across NJT facilities.
Required Expertise
We are seeking techs with 5 years of real diagnostic and repair experience in:
Heavy-Duty Diesel Systems
- Engine mechanical and electronic diagnostics
- Aftertreatment repair and emissions system troubleshooting
- Diesel propulsion system integration
Electrical / Electronic Systems
- CAN bus and multiplex network diagnosis
- Module communication failures and network topology
- ECU/TCM calibration and fault logic
- Advanced electrical fault isolation using DVOM, scopes, and breakout boxes
Brake & Powertrain Systems
- Pneumatic, hydraulic, and electronically controlled braking
- ZF/Allison diagnostic routines
- Powertrain performance troubleshooting
Preferred Credentials
- ASE certifications (T‑Series or L‑Series)
- OEM diagnostic platform experience
- Prior mentoring, training, or apprenticeship‑related experience (not required but valued)
Ideal Candidate Profile
You’re a senior diesel/electrical technician who:
- Solves complex electrical and drivability issues, not just PMs
- Understands how modern vehicle networks communicate
- Knows ZF/Allison/ECU/TCM interactions from hands‑on troubleshooting
- Enjoys helping less experienced techs learn the “why,” not just the “how”
- Wants a role that mixes hands‑on work with professional growth
Why This Role Stands Out in the NJ Market
- Work with advanced transit systems rather than basic fleet repairs
- Escape flat‑rate pressure — this is a stable full‑time training role
- Influence the skill level of the NJ Transit workforce
- Work alongside one of the region’s largest and most complex diesel fleets
- Strong pay, outstanding benefits, and a professional schedule
- Travel and mileage reimbursement
Benefits
- Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, Disability
- 401(k) with Company Match
- Paid Time Off & Holidays
- Climate‑Controlled Facilities
- Strong professional development & advancement trajectory
