We are currently seeking an experienced and motivated Nurse Supervisor to lead our Inpatient Department and support our mission of providing extraordinary care to every patient, every day.

 

Position Summary

The Inpatient Nurse Supervisor oversees the daily nursing operations of the Inpatient Department and assists the Director of Inpatient and Outpatient Services with the administrative and clinical management of the unit. This leadership role is responsible for staff supervision, scheduling, compliance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements, patient satisfaction, quality outcomes, and fostering a positive work environment.

The Nurse Supervisor provides leadership and support to a team that includes Registered Nurses (RNs), Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs), and Unit Secretaries within the Post-Surgical Unit.

 

Schedule

  • Full-time position
  • 80 hours per pay period (2 weeks)
  • Typically Monday through Friday
  • Weekends as needed
  • Hours based on departmental needs

 

Essential Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality patient care by determining appropriate staffing levels and coordinating nursing resources to maintain safe and effective patient care coverage.
  • Collaborate across the Inpatient and Outpatient Surgical Departments to maximize staffing resources and operational efficiency.
  • Manage department personnel, including staff meetings, competency assessments, scheduling, and compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Communicate clear performance expectations that align with departmental and organizational goals.
  • Monitor staff performance and conduct annual performance evaluations under the direction of the Director of Inpatient and Outpatient Services.
  • Partner with Charge Nurses to oversee nursing operations, communication, workflow processes, and day-to-day department activities.
  • Collaborate with supervisors, directors, charge nurses, and service line leaders to ensure the safe, efficient, and timely delivery of patient care.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and interdisciplinary teams to support patient care and operational needs.
  • Utilize coaching and mentoring strategies to support staff development, promote problem-solving, and foster a positive workplace culture.
  • Evaluate staff competencies on an ongoing basis and implement interventions as necessary to maintain quality and patient safety standards.
  • Collaborate with the Education Department to support staff education, training, and professional development.
  • Participate in all aspects of personnel management, including recruitment, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, scheduling, performance management, coaching, corrective action, staff development, and employee retention, in partnership with Human Resources.
Qualifications:

 

Required

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Nebraska or a compact state license. Nurses licensed in a compact state must establish Nebraska as their primary state of residence within 30 days of hire and obtain a Nebraska temporary permit or nursing license.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification upon hire.
  • Possession of either Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification at hire, with both certifications required within six months of employment.

Preferred

  • Previous supervisory or management experience.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in an acute care, surgical, or post-surgical setting.
  • Specialty certification relevant to the department, or a commitment to obtain certification within one year of hire.
