What are the responsibilities and job description for the 1.0 FTE Dean of Students beginning the 2026-2027 school year position at Lincoln Middle School?

DEFINITION OF POSITION: The Dean of Students assists building and district administrators in fostering a positive, inclusive, and academically focused school environment. This position supports student success through restorative practices, attendance interventions, instructional leadership, student behavior management, social and emotional support, school culture, family engagement, and collaboration with staff. The Dean of Students contributes to school improvement efforts, supports professional learning, and helps maintain a safe and supportive climate that promotes equity, accountability, and high expectations for all students. Possible teaching responsibilities may be assigned depending on certification and district needs.
IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Building Principal and/or District Administration
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current Washington State Teaching Certificate
- Minimum of three years of successful teaching
- Demonstrated success in building positive relationships with students, staff, and families
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Washington State Principal Certificate or active enrollment in an approved administrative certification program
- Master’s degree in education or related field
- Experience in instructional leadership, PBIS, restorative practices, and school improvement initiatives
- Experience supervising, supporting, or evaluating staff
ESSENTIAL JOB-RELATED ACTIVITIES:
- Assist building administrators with daily operations, student behavior management, positive behavioral intervention support, and attendance interventions
- Promote a safe, equitable, and culturally responsive school environment; assist with supervision, safety planning, and event management
- Implement restorative practices and support positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS)
- Collaborate with teachers and support staff to improve student academic and behavioral success
- Oversee Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS); coordinate academic and behavioral interventions for students, aligning support for Tier I, Tier II, and Tier III needs
- Respond to and resolve student, parent, and staff concerns using effective communication and conflict resolution strategies
- Monitor student attendance data, intervene, and coordinate interventions to remove barriers resulting in improved attendance outcomes
- Participate in and support student support meetings including IEP, 504, Crisis Support Team, and other intervention meetings
- Assist in implementing district and school improvement goals and initiatives
- Collect, analyze, and interpret student and school performance/attendance data to support decision-making
- Maintain visibility throughout the school day and provide supervision during school activities and events
- Support effective communication and collaboration among staff, students, families, and community partners
- Interpret and implement district policies, procedures, and administrative regulations
- Assist with classified staff supervision and evaluation as assigned
- Represent the school and district positively within the community
- Demonstrate professionalism, ethical conduct, confidentiality, and cultural responsiveness
- Teach classes or provide instructional support as assigned
- Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal or district administration

WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position may require flexible hours, including attendance at evening activities and events. Work is performed in a school environment with frequent interaction with students, staff, families, and community members. The position requires regular use of technology and office equipment, along with standing, walking, supervising students, and occasional lifting consistent with school operations.
TERMS OF CONTRACT:
- Salary: $58,459 - $110,184 per year, placement based on experience and level of education
- Length of Contract: 1.0 FTE, 180 days plus professional development days
- Leave/Benefits: Medical, dental, vision, life and long-term disability coverage is provided through SEBB (School Employee
- Benefits Board) for employees who work at least 630 hours per academic year. Retirement benefits are provided through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS). Additional benefits may include sick/emergency leave and personal leave as per the collective bargaining agreement between the Pullman Education Association (PEA) and the Pullman School District (pullman_education_association_agreement_2025-2028.pdf).
