DMPS is seeking a high school counselor to support students at Lincoln High School.

 

This position operates on a slightly extended calendar (15 days longer than regular teacher calendars). Please note start date when applying.

 

Salary information on this posting comes from the 25-26 salary schedule, as 26-27 salaries are not yet finalized.

 

TITLE: TCHR School Counselor (High School) 

POSITION TYPE: TCHR

HIRING SPECIFICATIONS:


Required:

  1. Master's degree in school counseling
  2. Valid Iowa license in school counseling
  3. COmpetency working in a culturally diverse environment or the willingness to acquire these skills

Desired:

  1. Classroom teacher experience
  2. Prior experience at the grade level(s) of the position

  

BASIC FUNCTION:
Design, implement, and manage a comprehensive school counseling program aligned with the American School Counselor Association National Model and the Iowa Framework for School Counseling Programs, addressing the career, academic, and social emotional development of all students.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Develop and manage a comprehensive school counseling program aligned to ASCA with the expectation of being a RAMP.
  2. Provides academic planning aligned with Iowa Code and diploma requirements.
  3. Ensures sudent credit acquisition through scheduling, intervention, and alternative pahways.
  4. Deliver district counseling curriculum (College and Career, Social and Emotional)
  5. Provide individual student support and small group support in a tiered model.
  6. Provide responsive services.
  7. Allocate majority of time (80%) to delivering a comprehensive school counseling program directly to students through curriculum, individual student planning and responsive services, and indirectly through student-centered collaborations, consultations, and referrals.
  8. Provide system support.
  9. Provide accountability for program and personal/professional goals and growth.
  10. Provide at risk services.

ADDITIONAL ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (for every DMPS position):

  1. Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.
  2. Maintain confidentiality.
  3. Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees.
  4. Assist with other duties as may be assigned.

REPORTS TO: Building Administrator(s)

RECEIVES GUIDANCE FROM: Student Services Director, Principal Supervisors

BARGAINING GROUP: DMEA

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

FT/PT: Full Time, 210 Days, 7.75 Hours/Day

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Standing, walking, sitting, bending/stooping, reaching/pushing/pulling, lifting carrying

WORKING CONDITIONS: Mostly indoors with some outdoor responsibilities during arrival/dismissal
