Buyer II – Procurement

Position Overview:
A U.S.-based manufacturer of high-performance heavy-duty engines is seeking a Buyer II to join its procurement team. This role is responsible for driving performance improvements in purchased materials, equipment, and services by focusing on cost control, delivery performance, service, and quality. The Buyer II ensures compliance with internal policies and government regulations while managing supplier relationships and supporting cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Generate and execute purchase orders based on approved requisitions, proposals, and bids.
- Manage supplier issues, including invoices, non-conformance reports, and certifications.
- Serve as the primary liaison between the company and assigned suppliers.
- Initiate and follow through on supplier changes (ECN).
- Maintain professional relationships with suppliers, resolving pricing, quality, timing, and contract disputes.
- Evaluate price, delivery, quality, and past performance when selecting suppliers.
- Communicate with suppliers regarding shortages, defects, quotations, and substitutions.
- Support and communicate the company's mission, values, and culture.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 5 years procurement experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams (Sales, Manufacturing, Finance, Supply Chain, IT).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and MRP systems; experience with Oracle ERP preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret manufacturing drawings and blueprints, including technical specifications.
- Negotiation skills and knowledge of price/cost analysis.
- Lean manufacturing implementation experience is a plus.
