PAY RATE:                                 $19.19 HR

 

JOB SUMMARY:

 

The BCBA Intern supports the implementation of evidence-based behavioral practices and instructional programming within the school setting while completing supervised fieldwork requirements toward Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certification. Under the supervision of a qualified BCBA supervisor, the BCBA Intern assists with functional behavior assessments, behavior intervention planning, data collection and analysis, staff consultation, and implementation of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) strategies to support student success.

The BCBA Intern assists teachers and special education staff in implementing instructional and behavioral support programs, including working directly with students in small groups or on an individual basis. The BCBA Intern establishes effective rapport with assigned students, supports the development of positive behaviors and learning skills, and assists students in developing the attitudes, skills, and knowledge necessary to achieve educational success based on each student’s individual abilities and needs.

The BCBA Intern collaborates with special education staff, general education teachers, administrators, related service providers, families, and community partners to promote positive behavioral outcomes and improve access to educational programming for students with diverse learning and behavioral needs.

 

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Other duties as assigned)

  • Assists teachers and special education staff in implementing instructional, behavioral, and individualized student support programs, including preparation and organization of instructional materials.
  • Provides individualized and small-group instruction to reinforce academic, behavioral, social, communication, and adaptive skills identified through student support plans.
  • Facilitates learning activities, social skills instruction, and behavior skill-building activities according to established procedures and student needs.
  • Implements instructional activities, Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) strategies, classroom behavior supports, and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) under the direction and supervision of classroom teachers and assigned BCBA supervisor.
  • Supports the implementation and monitoring of individualized student interventions, accommodations, modifications, and positive behavior support strategies.
  • Collects, documents, and analyzes behavioral data through observation and approved data collection systems to support intervention planning and progress monitoring.
  • Assists with functional behavior assessments (FBAs), including behavioral observations and gathering information as directed by the supervising BCBA.
  • Provides feedback to supervising staff regarding student progress, behavioral concerns, and the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Supports students in developing independence, self-management, self-regulation, appropriate social behaviors, and academic skills.
  • Provides encouragement, positive reinforcement, and emotional support to students.
  • Communicates student needs, behavioral concerns, and progress with teachers and supervising staff.
  • Participates in problem-solving meetings, student support meetings, IEP meetings, and related planning activities as appropriate.
  • Assists special education staff with progress monitoring, evaluation activities, and maintenance of special education records as appropriate.
  • Maintains accurate documentation of supervised fieldwork activities toward BCBA certification requirements, when applicable.
  • Assists with the provision of physical care and support of students as needed.
  • Supports students across a variety of educational environments, including classrooms, school activities, community-based instruction, job training sites, and other assigned settings.
  • Assists with student supervision throughout the school day, including classroom support, transitions, loading/unloading of buses, lunch, recess, assemblies, and other assigned activities.
  • Anticipates and responds appropriately to student needs and behavioral situations while maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment.
  • Maintains regular attendance, confidentiality, and demonstrates unquestionable integrity.
  • Complies with state law, district policies, and regulations.
  • Participates in required professional development related to special education, behavior support, ABA practices, and student-specific needs.
  • Attends district workshops, professional development, and required training as directed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the building administrator and/or Director of Special Education.

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • High School diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Obtain substitute certification through DESE, required.
  • Enrollment in an approved graduate-level program in Applied Behavior Analysis, required.
  • Eligibility to complete supervised fieldwork hours toward BCBA certification.
  • Completion of required coursework and supervised experience requirements as established by BACB standards.
  • Experience working with children and/or individuals with disabilities preferred.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required background checks and employment requirements established by the district.
