What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Highway Worker position at Lincoln County SD?
This position is based in Canton.
This is a great outdoor summer job working 40 hours a week with 3-day weekends! The work schedule would be Monday - Thursday 6a - 4:30p. This position would start May and go until August. Previous experience is not required, and we will provide the training.
Seasonal Highway Worker's will perform maintenance and repair work to maintain the County highway and bridge system. Also help in the upkeep of County properties.
Responsibilities may include:
- Responsible for crew safety by flagging, setting out cones and signage, and cleaning up roads after the work is complete.
- Assisting in road repair asphalt paving, sealing, general clean up, delivering materials, loading/unloading materials, and other related duties.
- Other responsibilities such as weed maintenance, fence repair and other semi-skilled labor tasks may be expected.
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must be age 18 by date of hire, must have a valid driver’s license with a good driving record. Must successfully complete a criminal background check, fingerprinting, and a physical including a drug screening, vision and or hearing test. Ability to perform strenuous physical labor, occasionally perform heavy lifting of 50lbs, and perform heavy manual work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to understand and comply with verbal and written instructions and to maintain a variety of records. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public. Ability to maintain a professional appearance and demeanor.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience working for a highway department in construction, bridge maintenance, vehicle maintenance, and or experience working in a similar environment is helpful but not required.
