CLASS TITLE: Migrant Program Advocate/Recruiter
REPORTS TO: Migrant Education District Coordinator

NUMBER OF DAYS:
BASIC FUNCTION:
Identify, recruit, and enroll eligible migrant students residing in the assigned District. Act as a liaison between school and the migrant community to maintain communication between migrant families and the schools and provide resource services.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
- Actively identify and recruit eligible migrant children residing in the school district, including surveying the area, conducting periodic surveys of students, and establishing communications networks.
- Complete the Certificate of Eligibility (COE), obtain appropriate signatures from parents/guardians, and submit the completed COE to the assigned staff.
- Review/use state and federal mandates and guidelines to interview families to determine eligibility for migrant services.
- Make home visits to migrant families to communicate available school services, programs, and area social services and assess environment for barriers to success.
- Maintain daily logs, including mileage and time of all activities such as home visits, services provided to families, field reports, contacts with instructional personnel, and statistical information to make entries to the migrant database (web app) for future evaluation.
- Work under the supervision of an assigned director; assist and collaborate with school principals, teachers, secretaries, and nurses in maintaining related records.
- Provide or facilitate supportive services to migrant children or to their families as necessary; enable migrant children to receive a sound education.
- Assist with the development, planning, recruitment, and implementation of summer programming.
- Attend all training for recruiters and meetings arranged by the Regional and State Migrant Coordinators, including any state-mandated training or professional development.
- Comply with all district routines and regulations and maintain current knowledge of program rules, requirements, and restrictions.
- Maintain regular attendance.
- Perform related duties as assigned.

- Communicate effectively in writing and verbally in English and preferably in Spanish.
- Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with parents and students.
- Maintain routine records.
- Maintain current knowledge of program rules, regulations, requirements, and restrictions.
- Prioritize duties and activities and meet deadlines.
- Be willing to work a schedule with irregular hours including weekends, evenings, and summers.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination equivalent to:
- High school diploma or G.E.D. Certificate as required by Kentucky law, and one year experience working with multi-cultural families.
- Bilingual preferred.
