Role Description The Chief Deputy Prosecuting Attorney is a full-time, on-site position located in Davenport, WA, responsible for managing and prosecuting a wide range of criminal and related legal matters. Daily responsibilities include reviewing investigative reports, filing and litigating criminal charges, conducting legal research, preparing motions and briefs, and representing the county in court hearings, trials, and appeals. The role involves advising law enforcement and county departments on legal issues, participating in plea negotiations, and ensuring cases are handled in accordance with applicable laws and ethical standards.
Qualifications
- Strong foundation in Law, including criminal law and procedure, with the ability to analyze complex statutes and case law.
- Demonstrated ability to provide clear, practical Legal Advice to law enforcement and public officials.
- Proficiency in legal Research, including use of legal databases and preparation of well-supported legal memoranda and briefs.
- Effective Negotiation skills for plea discussions, settlements, and resolving disputes while maintaining ethical standards.
- Licensed to practice law and in good standing with the relevant state bar; eligibility for admission in Washington State if not already admitted.
- Prior experience as a prosecuting attorney or in a comparable litigation role, preferably in the public sector.
- Excellent written and oral advocacy skills, including courtroom presentation and drafting of clear, precise legal documents.
- Ability to manage a reasonable caseload, prioritize deadlines, and work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
