Brief Job Summary
This position is responsible for managing the operational aspect of the county"s emergency medical service division. Job Responsibilities
~ Supervises the day-to day activities of the Shift Supervisors regarding scheduling; ensures proper ambulance coverage for the county; delivery of service; response times; reviews and approves vacation requests; reviews and verifies timesheets.
~ Coordinates, monitors, and evaluates requests for EMS coverage and services at special events.
~ Attends specialized workshops and training sessions
~ Assists in employee recruitment, selection, retention, scheduling, and development
~ Coordinates the division"s emergency action plan
~ Performs investigations related to customer complaints, personnel issues, accidents/incidents, FMLA, workers" compensation incidents, etc.
~ Participates in and prepares reporting for internal and external committees, including Peer Review Committee, Safety Committee, Metrolina Healthcare Preparedness Coalition, and serves as the chairman of the equipment committee.
~ Ensures compliance with NCOEMS; NCAREMS; NIOSH; OSHA; and safety regulations and serves as the department Safety Officer and Infection Control Officer.
~ Responds to and provides emergency medical care to the general public as required.
~ Performs the duties of the EMS Manager in his or her absence.
~ Performs other related duties.
Minimum Qualifications
~ Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.
~ Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the diverse objectives and functions of the subunits in the division/department in order to direct and coordinate work within the division/department, usually interpreted to require three to five years of related experience.
~ Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver"s license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
~ Possession of or ability to readily obtain appropriate state EMS certification(s), including NC Paramedic and NR Paramedic certification.
