What are the responsibilities and job description for the Afternoon Maintenance Custodian, PT position at Lincoln Academy?
The Evening Maintenance Custodian helps maintain school facilities and grounds by performing general cleaning, light repairs, and preventative maintenance. The goal of this role is to ensure our buildings remain clean, safe, and ready for students to learn in a neat and orderly environment.
Schedule & Pay
Typical school year schedule: 3:00pm – 7:00pm (Time is flexible based on availability)
2–3 days per week (days are flexible based on availability)
Starting wage: $16.00/hour
This position qualifies for an additional $0.50/hour shift differential
Summer Schedule
This position transitions to daytime hours in the summer — typically beginning around 8:00am
Some flexibility in summer scheduling is also available
Primary Responsibilities
Perform general repairs
Complete preventative maintenance tasks
Clean, sanitize, and maintain assigned spaces
Open, resolve, and close facilities work tickets (with notes on actions taken)
Below is a list of typical tasks that can be expected. This is not a comprehensive list. End of shift will consist of a hand-off of the school to the night custodial crew.

General Maintenance & Repairs
Replace filters (air purifiers, HVAC, etc.)
Wall repair and paint
- Light plumbing
Light electrical
General building maintenance
Landscape and grounds maintenance
Preventive maintenance of machines and equipment
Cleaning & Building Care
Clean and sanitize touch points
Gather and empty Interior or exterior trash
Vacuum carpet and area rugs
Spot clean carpets, rugs, and upholstery
Wet mop VCT floors
Burnish VCT flooring
Polish wood flooring in gymnasiums
Dust or polish furnishings, light fixtures, window sills, paneling, pictures, etc.
Sweep and mop bleachers
Operate specialized cleaning equipment such as buffers, ride-on floor scrubbers, ride-on burnishers, sweepers, etc.
Reporting & Safety
Report safety and security issues
Be responsible for nightly security of the school — keep areas locked as you move through the building
Document actions taken and close open work orders when completed
Qualifications / Requirements
Maintenance experience preferred
Ability to safely operate custodial equipment and machinery
Ability to lift 30–60 lbs
Ability to stand, walk, kneel, squat, stoop, push, pull, twist, bend, and perform repetitive movements for extended periods of time
Familiarity with Safety Data Sheets (SDS) preferred
Demonstrates integrity and the ability to work independently
Bilingual Spanish is a plus (not required)
Comfortable being around and safely working with cleaning chemicals
Must be able to pass a background check
