The investigative news producer will help gather information, garner questions from the public and support collaboration between WFHB’s daily news programming and Limestone Post’s long-form reporting.

WFHB will first cover a local news story for radio, then Limestone Post will cover the subject in a more in-depth manner for print, and lastly, the two partners will collaborate to create a recap of the story in some way (i.e. discussing the reporting process, future expectations, and respond to community feedback).

  • Identify and track breaking news stories in the Monroe County area that generate public interest or community discussion.
  • Report and produce stories that the collaborative team decides are relevant to cover
  • Record interviews with decent sound quality

  • Collect community questions and feedback through social media platforms, online discussions and other engagement tools.
  • Monitor ongoing developments related to the story and provide follow-up reporting as new information emerges.
  • Promote the project and its reporting through social media channels and other community outreach efforts.
  • Coordinate with Limestone Post’s Executive Editor to ensure project goals and timelines are met
  • Coordinate with Limestone Post’s Development Director to fulfill annual grant reporting requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in journalism and multimedia storytelling preferred
  • Strong interviewing, writing and audio storytelling skills
  • Ability to follow developing stories and synthesize complex information for a broad audience
  • Interest in community engagement and citizen journalism
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and digital engagement tools
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a partner organization.

Project Impact:

This role will help address gaps in the local news landscape by providing timely reporting while also supporting more in-depth coverage that answers community questions and sets the record straight on complex issues. By bridging radio reporting and long-form journalism, the reporter will help ensure Monroe County residents have access to accurate, contextual and community-focused news coverage.
