What are the responsibilities and job description for the Patient Coordinator/Out Patient Admissions position at Limestone Medical Center?
JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for admitting and discharging patients. Assists in processing documents for insurance coverage and for transferring patients. Answers multi-line telephone using departmental procedures in routing and transferring calls.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
A. Education: High School graduate or equivalent.
B. Personal Job-Related Skills: Effective verbal and written communication skills. Familiarity with operations of personal computers and a typing speed of approximately 45 wpm. Knowledge of general clerical duties.
C. Licensure, Registry or Certification: None required.
D. Experience:
1. Prior Work Experience: One year in a business office environment with knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
2. Technical Training: None required.
E. Physical and Mental Requirements: Duties of the position require intermittent walking, sitting and standing. Some bending, stooping and reaching is required with the lifting of items up to a weight of 20 pounds. The ability to comprehend and follow routine written or verbal instructions or directions.
ESSENTIALS DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
A.
1. Greets patients with a friendly customer service attitude.
2. Responsible for admitting, transferring, and discharging patients.
3. Locates, releases and check orders. Making sure all is scanned for correct testing and coding.
4. Verifies and updates patient profile with current demographics and insurance information.
5. Verifies patient insurance coverage at time of service. Making sure all is correct in profile and current admission for correct billing.
6. Obtains signatures from patients or responsible parties for all services rendered. Including required inpatient packet and observation notices.
7. Answers and relays all calls to the appropriate department.
8. Receives and properly accounts for cash or credit card payments for services rendered and prepares a receipt for the patient.
9. Perform or assist with other duties assigned.
B.
1. Admit patients through the software system making sure all fields are correctly done according to procedure.
2. Print required forms and labels dispersing them to the appropriate department.
C. Verifies Insurance
1. Verifies patient insurance coverage at time of admission, making sure all is correct for billing.
2. Check TMHP on Medicaid eligible patients making sure the correct plan is in patient account.
3. Verifies Worker’s Compensation when needed.
4. Make sure the required forms are completed for Work Comp and MVA.
Perform other duties and tasks as assigned by the manager.
