Role Description This is a contract, on-site Locum Tenens Advanced Practice Provider (APP) and Physician role based in several sites in southwest, northwest, northeast, and southeast Kansas.
The clinician will provide direct patient care in a rural-focused setting, including performing histories and physicals, diagnosing and managing acute and chronic conditions, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, and prescribing appropriate treatments. Responsibilities include collaborating closely with nursing staff and other clinicians, ensuring continuity of care, and adhering to evidence-based guidelines and facility protocols. The role may involve working in outpatient clinics, inpatient units, or emergency/urgent care environments depending on facility needs, as well as participating in handoffs, documentation, and care coordination. The clinician will be expected to maintain accurate and timely medical records, support quality and safety initiatives, and communicate clearly with patients, families, and care teams.
Qualifications
- Current, unrestricted license to practice as a Physician (MD/DO) or Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA) in Kansas, with appropriate national certification (e.g., board certification for physicians, national certification for APPs).
- Clinical competency in acute and primary care, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and follow-up for diverse adult and possibly pediatric populations.
- Strong patient communication skills, including the ability to explain diagnoses and treatment options in clear, compassionate, and culturally sensitive language.
- Experience or strong interest in rural healthcare settings, with the ability to practice with a reasonable degree of autonomy and resourcefulness.
- Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHRs), documentation standards, and basic digital tools for clinical workflows.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams, including nurses, specialists, and administrative staff.
- Commitment to evidence-based practice, patient safety, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Flexibility to adapt to varying census, shift needs, and different rural facility environments; willingness to work days, evenings, or weekends as needed by the contract.
- BLS and ACLS certifications required; additional certifications (e.g., PALS, ATLS) and prior experience in emergency medicine, hospitalist medicine, or primary care are preferred.
