Job Title: Childcare Instructor (non-certified)
Supervised by/Reports to: Pre-K Coordinator
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Job Goals:
- Plan and carry out a daily program designed to meet the physical and developmental needs of a group of children.
- Effectively supervise other staff assisting in the classroom
- Sensitive to the needs of individual children and relates well to both the children and adults.
Qualifications:
- Associate Degree or two years of higher education or successful passage of the WorkKeys test, required.
- Proven experience as a Child Care / Daycare / Preschool Teacher, preferred
- Able to manage students independently.
- Ability to efficiently use technology
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with teachers, students, parents, and others
- Certification in first aid and CPR or will become certified
- Clear criminal background check.
- In-depth understanding of childhood development.
- Attentive, patient, flexible with a love for children
Performance Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
- Plan, schedule, and implement the daily program of appropriate developmental experiences for a classroom group of children
- Provide basic care, protection, and caregiving activities for children which include feeding, grooming, and changing diapers.
- Providing a pleasant, safe, and sanitary environment.
- Assure that equipment and materials are accessible, appropriate, and in good condition
- Perform classroom-related and other maintenance duties as requested
- Maintain a pleasant, comfortable atmosphere conducive to children’s growth and development and arrange to promote optimal program functioning.
- Help children learn to adapt to and cope with real-life situations; to develop appropriate habits in such activities as eating, dressing, napping and personal hygiene
- Use a wide range of teaching methods (stories, media, indoor or outdoor games, drawing etc) to enhance the child’s abilities
- Evaluate children’s performance to make sure they are on the right learning track
- Remain in constant communication with parents and update them on the progress of their children
- Identify behavioral problems and determine the right course of action
- Collaborate with other colleagues
- Adhere to teaching standards and safety regulations as established by the official sources
- Communicating with parents and providing updates on children’s progress.
- Seek to involve parents in the child development program by participating in parent meetings and demonstrating an interest in the child that extends beyond the classroom.
- Maintain progress records on the emotional, physical, social and intellectual development of assigned children
- Work with parents to solve behavior problems; arrange parent conferences as necessary and field parent’s complaints
- Supervise and encourage the development of instructional assistants, volunteers and other child care personnel in the classroom.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, conferences, workshops and other career development and professional activities
- Performs other job-related duties and responsibilities as assigned by Supervisor(s).
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and use hands to finger, to handle, or feel objects, equipment, or controls. The employee frequently is required to talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, bend, stoop, squat, crouch, and kneel. The employee must occasionally lift, push, pull, carry and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include near vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Salary: Salary to be established by The Limestone County School’s District Salary Schedule.
