Position Overview
You will guide students through the complete artistic process—creating, presenting, responding, and connecting—as they develop their God-given creative abilities. Guided by the NY State Visual Arts Standards and LCS Student Expected Outcomes, you will deliver visual arts instruction with creativity in instructional approach while fostering students’ technical skills, creative thinking, cultural awareness, and spiritual growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Guide students in generating, developing, and refining original artwork through experimentation with diverse materials, techniques, and artistic approaches
- Teach students to analyze, interpret, and evaluate artwork from various cultural, historical, and contemporary contexts using art vocabulary and critical thinking skills
- Facilitate critique sessions and reflection practices that help students develop their artistic voice and refine their work through constructive feedback
- Guide students in curating, presenting, and exhibiting their work professionally, including developing artist statements and portfolio skills
- Foster connections between art and faith by helping students explore how artistic expression relates to personal meaning, cultural values, and biblical worldview integration
- Teach responsible creative practices including ethical use of images, proper care of materials and equipment, and awareness of environmental impact in artmaking
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Art Education or related field
- Strong writing and communication skills
- Heart for Christian education and biblical worldview integration
- A current portfolio showcasing original works of art
Preferred:
- Technology proficiency and classroom experience
- Ability to teach advanced art classes
- Progress toward state teacher certification (grades 7-12) and/or ACSI certification
