Lilling & Company LLP is a boutique accounting firm that has tripled in size over the last 10 years and is looking for a new Senior Tax Manager. At Lilling, we provide tax compliance, advisory, and advocacy services to a diverse client base. This role centers on our individual, family, and business clients — including high-net-worth individuals and families, gift and estate matters, and closely held and growing businesses — within a firm that also serves corporations, partnerships, investment entities, broker-dealers, and not-for-profits.
As Senior Tax Manager, you will be involved both in new business opportunities and in servicing existing long-standing clients in a compliance and consulting role. You will also take part in thought leadership opportunities and technology initiatives, and in developing and mentoring staff. This is a partner-track position, and the successful candidate will be positioned to become a co-head of the tax department.
Responsibilities
- Be on a partner track toward becoming a co-head of the tax department
- Assist in managing the tax department
- Lead the preparation and high-level review of individual income tax returns (Form 1040) for high-net-worth individuals and families
- Oversee gift tax returns (Form 709) and coordinate on related estate and wealth-transfer planning
- Advise closely held businesses on tax compliance and planning, including pass-through entities (S corporations and partnerships) and sole proprietorships
- Perform high-level compliance review and tax return signoff
- Handle client consultations on planning opportunities and changes in tax law
- Work on proposals and assist in developing new business
- Meet prospective clients and develop relationships with new and existing clients
- Expand services to existing clients
- Supervise engagements and special projects undertaken by the firm
- Oversee all aspects of the client engagement
- Supervise, train, and evaluate staff
- Coach, mentor, and assist staff so they can develop and support the growth of the tax function
- Maintain knowledge of new tax issues and general business trends that affect clients
- Schedule tax engagements and monitor timelines for all tax deliverables
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or an equivalent field; Master's in Accounting or Taxation preferred
- CPA
- 10 years of tax experience at a public accounting firm
- 5 years of supervisory experience mentoring and counseling associates
- Strong experience in individual income taxation, gift tax returns (Form 709), and closely held business taxation, including pass-through entities; estate tax experience a plus
- Several years of client-facing experience
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment
- Highly detail-oriented, organized, and proactive
- Excellent interpersonal skills and oral and written communication, with a client focus

Salary : $170,000 - $220,000
