Lilling & Company LLP is a boutique accounting firm that has tripled in size over the last 10 years and is looking for a new Senior Tax Manager. At Lilling, we provide tax compliance, advisory, and advocacy services to a diverse client base. This role centers on our individual, family, and business clients — including high-net-worth individuals and families, gift and estate matters, and closely held and growing businesses — within a firm that also serves corporations, partnerships, investment entities, broker-dealers, and not-for-profits.

As Senior Tax Manager, you will be involved both in new business opportunities and in servicing existing long-standing clients in a compliance and consulting role. You will also take part in thought leadership opportunities and technology initiatives, and in developing and mentoring staff. This is a partner-track position, and the successful candidate will be positioned to become a co-head of the tax department.

Responsibilities

  • Be on a partner track toward becoming a co-head of the tax department
  • Assist in managing the tax department
  • Lead the preparation and high-level review of individual income tax returns (Form 1040) for high-net-worth individuals and families
  • Oversee gift tax returns (Form 709) and coordinate on related estate and wealth-transfer planning
  • Advise closely held businesses on tax compliance and planning, including pass-through entities (S corporations and partnerships) and sole proprietorships
  • Perform high-level compliance review and tax return signoff
  • Handle client consultations on planning opportunities and changes in tax law
  • Work on proposals and assist in developing new business
  • Meet prospective clients and develop relationships with new and existing clients
  • Expand services to existing clients
  • Supervise engagements and special projects undertaken by the firm
  • Oversee all aspects of the client engagement
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate staff
  • Coach, mentor, and assist staff so they can develop and support the growth of the tax function
  • Maintain knowledge of new tax issues and general business trends that affect clients
  • Schedule tax engagements and monitor timelines for all tax deliverables

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or an equivalent field; Master's in Accounting or Taxation preferred
  • CPA
  • 10 years of tax experience at a public accounting firm
  • 5 years of supervisory experience mentoring and counseling associates
  • Strong experience in individual income taxation, gift tax returns (Form 709), and closely held business taxation, including pass-through entities; estate tax experience a plus
  • Several years of client-facing experience
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment
  • Highly detail-oriented, organized, and proactive
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and oral and written communication, with a client focus
