About The Role
The Lead Engineer, Research supports a portfolio of on-campus and/or off-campus research, innovation, and laboratory buildings. This role is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and reliability of building systems, ensuring a safe, compliant, and high-performing environment for tenants, clients, patients, and visitors. The Lead Engineer, Research plays a critical role in maintaining building infrastructure and delivering exceptional service to support the unique needs of research and laboratory operations. About The Role
The Lead Engineer, Research supports a portfolio of on-campus and/or off-campus research, innovation, and laboratory buildings. This role is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and reliability of building systems, ensuring a safe, compliant, and high-performing environment for tenants, clients, patients, and visitors. The Lead Engineer, Research plays a critical role in maintaining building infrastructure and delivering exceptional service to support the unique needs of research and laboratory operations. Key responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Complete maintenance and repair work orders using work order software
- Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on building systems and equipment
- Respond promptly to emergencies and resolve issues safely and efficiently
- Maintain inventory of tools, supplies, and parts
- Communicate effectively with tenants, vendors, and team members regarding building needs
- Ensure all work complies with safety standards, policies, and procedures
- Support the Senior Property Manager in monitoring building operations and vendor performance
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned
- High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training in maintenance-related fields preferred
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between assigned properties as needed.
- Minimum of 6 years of related maintenance experience; preferably in healthcare, commercial real estate, or hospital environments
- Certifications (e.g., HVAC, CFC Handling, Electrical, Plumbing) preferred
- Must be located in the Richmond, VA area with availability for after-hours emergencies and participation in on-call rotation
- Must be in office, on-site, 5 days a week and drive to the various properties with employee owned vehicle, as needed
- Ability to lift at least 50 pounds, climb ladders/stairs, and perform extensive walking
- Basic computer skills and comfort using maintenance or work order software
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without need for employer sponsorship now or in the future
