Job Purpose
The Youth Engagement Specialist (YES) will support ʻŌlino Pathways Technology -esports and game design programming at Liliʻuokalani Center. This role emphasizes competitive esports play, team-building, and mentoring youth in structured and casual gameplay, while also assisting with game design programming and related technology. The YES will engage directly with youth by supporting day-to-day operations of the esports and game design programs and contribute to building a positive and inclusive gaming culture at LC.
Lili’uokalani Center (LC)
Informed by a deep understanding of the adolescent experience and grounded in Hawaiian culture, the new LC will provide Hawaiian youth with opportunities to connect to peers and mentors, receive supportive services, and discover pathways to passion, purpose, and prosperity. LC will be LT’s signature youth development hub for culture, creativity, technology, and play, and will serve as a resource center where youth can connect to vital support and a vibrant community. LC will be a safe space located in urban Honolulu where youth are inspired to pursue their dreams, including exploring pathways in the arts, sports, technology, and entrepreneurship while receiving wraparound support to help them reach their goals and become thriving adults. A primary function of LC will be to provide a space for young people to play, to learn, to find connection and inspiration, and to experience joy.

Essential Responsibilities
- Support and assist facilitating esports programming at LC, including competitive play, team-based training, and community tournaments.
- Mentor youth in team building, communication, and leadership skills through structured and casual gameplay.
- Assist with game design and technology programming, introducing youth to tools such as video game design, game play mechanics, etc.
- Support the opening, closing, and daily operation of the esports and technology spaces.
- Contribute to the planning and delivery of special events, workshops, and showcases.
- Provide guidance and support to youth under the direction of the ʻŌlino Pathways Technology Team.
- Assist with transportation and supervision of participants as needed.
- Provide administrative and logistical support, ensuring efficient program operations.
- Demonstrate awareness of and engagement with Kanaka Maoli/Native Hawaiian culture and practices
- Contribute to the Trust’s success by accepting new assignments, supporting team members, and learning new skills.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development.
- Work evening and weekend hours as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Demonstrate ability to participate in esports programming with prior experience in esports clubs/programs
- Prior experience as a collegiate-level or high school-level competitive esports player preferred.
- Familiarity with popular esports titles (e.g., League of Legends, Super Smash Bros, Rocket League, etc.) and casual multiplayer games.
- Experience working with youth in a mentorship role.
- Demonstrated ability to use workplace technology platforms: laptop, web-based applications, project management tools/software, and communication platforms.
- Valid driver’s license, clean traffic abstract
- TB clearance
- High school diploma or equivalent experience
