Job Purpose

The Program Manager, ʻŌlino Pathways (Athletics) is responsible for general oversight of all athletic and wellness programming, Trainers, Guest Athletes, and Partners at Liliʻuokalani Center. The manager will maintain a state-wide view and awareness of youth interests and needs in these areas, and will assist in facilitating the development of responsive, accessible, and engaging programming to meet those needs. Housed at the new Lili’uokalani Center (LC), the Program Manager, ʻŌlino Pathways (Athletics) will work collaboratively with other Pathway Managers and LT leadership to set the vision for programming and will engage in ongoing quality assurance and evaluation efforts.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Manage Athletics and Wellness specialists, Trainers, Guest Athletes, and relevant partners
  • Develop and implement, in collaboration with other Pathways Managers, partners, and Youth Program leadership, relevant, engaging, and creative group activities, workshops, and ongoing programming inclusive of daily, weekly, and monthly schedules
  • Ensure an appropriate balance of drop-in and closed programming, including opportunities for special events and workshops
  • Develop and maintain relationships with teammates across kīpuka and produce collaborative region-specific programming
  • Identify and cultivate, in collaboration with teammates and Community Resources team, relevant community partnerships
  • Maintain strong relationships with local and national partners and serve as a clearinghouse for partnership implementation
  • In collaboration with the ʻŌlino Team, identify local and national subject matter experts and best-in-class programs in athletics and wellness to learn from and partner with
  • Cultivate a sense of community and social/emotional support for participants through intentional programmatic development, design, and implementation
  • Ensure that programming emphasizes a connection to the broader world balanced with deep understanding of Native Hawaiian culture, highlighting opportunities for learning and advancement for participants while also strengthening ties to local communities
  • Work collaboratively with the Research & Evaluation team to design data collection processes that provide regular, actionable feedback from participants to inform program design
  • Establish strong ties to LT’s Youth Advisory Committee, increasing opportunities for youth voice and youth leadership throughout athletics and wellness program development
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current trends in youth services and athletics and wellness ensuring that community initiatives and programmatic strategies are aligned with current needs and environment
  • Work collaboratively with program leadership to ensure appropriate staffing and supervision of all program spaces
  • Provide program coverage as necessary
  • Provide ongoing support and guidance for program teammates

Other Duties

  • Participate in program planning, budget development, revision, evaluation, and reporting
  • Provides transportation for organization related business, such as driving staff, beneficiaries and/or families to assigned destinations
  • Participates in continuing education and training opportunities for professional development
  • Contributes to the Trust’s success by accepting new assignments, helping team members, learning new skills, and striving to improves team and organization results

Qualifications

  • BA in related field preferred, or equivalent work experience required
  • At least four years of experience in youth work
  • Valid driver’s license, clean traffic abstract
  • TB clearance

  • Relationship Management: Experience working with staff at all levels in a collaborative environment; ability to promote and sustain positive workplace values and relationships
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to work well under pressure and to remain calm and controlled when faced with challenging situations

Travel Requirements

In alignment with our organizational competencies of Alu Like I ka Hana (Teamwork) and Ho`omau i ka `imi Na`auao (Continuous Learning and Improvement), this position will require occasional travel across the island, inter-island, and out-of-state depending on the needs of the team and the organization. While travel may not always be a need, the ability to travel when required remains a crucial aspect of this position.
