The Infrastructure Engineer I supports the technical planning, design, and implementation of Outside Plant (OSP) communications infrastructure projects at Lightspeed Networks This entry-level position involves independent field data collection, route verification, site assessments, permitting support, and construction compliance observation. The role requires a basic understanding of field engineering principles, regulatory codes, and construction processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Field Data Collection & Site Assessment: Assist with the collection of aerial and underground field data using GPS and measuring tools. Verify and document routes, incorporating existing utility markings into designs.
- Basic Design & Drafting Support: Support design modifications and assist with project documentation. Convert field data into preliminary designs using GIS tools and Bluebeam Software.
- Permitting Support: Prepare 811 One-Call underground utility locate tickets and assist in the preparation and submission of permit applications.
- Customer Interaction & Site Surveys: Participate in site walks and meetings with clients and facility owners. Record site conditions and design considerations to report to Project Engineers.
- Construction Compliance Support: Observe and document construction compliance on smaller projects. Support the tracking of discrepancies and issues.
- Basic Knowledge of Standards & Codes: Understand and apply basic NESC (National Electric Safety Code) and NEC (National Electric Code) to design and construction processes, for Telecommunications Infrastructure.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (preferred) or equivalent field experience.
Experience:
- 0-3 years of experience in infrastructure field data collection, design, and construction support.
- Basic knowledge of field engineering principles, regulatory codes (NESC/NEC).
- Familiarity with CAD/GIS tools and Bluebeam PDF editor is a plus.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to travel for field data collection and site surveys.
- Ability to lift / carry up to 50 lbs. and stand / walk for long periods of time
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Basic knowledge of field engineering principles, regulatory codes (NESC/NEC).
